About US
The University of Seville grew out of the Colegio de Santa María de Jesús, founded by Archdeacon Maese Rodrigo Fernández de Santaella; in 1505 a bull of Pope Julius II allowed it to award degrees in theology, philosophy, law, medicine and arts, and in 1551 the city recognised it as an official university. Since 1948 its rectorate has occupied the 18th-century Royal Tobacco Factory, which also houses the faculties of Geography and History and of Philology.
It is one of Spain's largest universities. In 2025-26 it had 52,993 bachelor's students, 7,177 master's students and 3,770 doctoral candidates, 4,736 teaching and research staff, 94 bachelor's degrees (including double degrees) in its own centres and 134 departments. Its own centres include 19 faculties and 6 schools, among them the Higher Technical School of Engineering, which teaches Aerospace Engineering, and schools of Architecture and Computer Engineering.
Teaching is mainly in Spanish, although the number of subjects taught in English has been growing. Fees are set by the Andalusian government, about 758 euros for a first year of 60 credits, and credits passed first time are 99% rebated the following year. It suits students who want a large, traditional public university in a lively southern capital with strong law, humanities, health and engineering schools.
Why students choose US

It offers 94 bachelor's degrees in its own centres across arts, health, sciences, social sciences and engineering, including Aerospace Engineering at the Higher Technical School of Engineering.
