About UoH

The University of Hyderabad was set up by an Act of Parliament in 1974 as a central university, funded by the University Grants Commission. It started in The Golden Threshold, the home of the poet Sarojini Naidu, which remains its city campus, and later moved to a campus of about 2,000 acres in Gachibowli that includes forest, lakes and Deccan rock formations. The government named it an Institution of Eminence in 2019, and NAAC re-accredited it at 'A+' (3.28 out of 4) until January 2028.

UoH is primarily a postgraduate and research university, organised into 12 schools from mathematics and physics to the Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication and a School of Medical Sciences. School-leavers join through 5-year integrated M.Sc. and M.A. programmes (plus a 4-year B.S. in Chemistry and a 5-year B.Optom.), studying first at the Centre for Integrated Studies before moving into the university's departments. Admission is through India's national CUET-UG exam.

Fees are very low, since it is a central government university: first-year fees for an Integrated M.A. are about Rs 10,000. The university has about 418 full-time faculty, a 1:10.5 teacher-student ratio and 23 hostels housing over 5,000 students. It suits research-minded students who already know which science or humanities subject they want to pursue to master's level.

Why students choose UoH

01

School-leavers can go straight into a five-year integrated master's in subjects from physics and biology to economics, history and language sciences.

02

Fees are among the lowest anywhere: first-semester fees for an Integrated M.A. total Rs 7,650, including a refundable deposit.

03

The 23 hostels house more than 5,000 students on a largely residential campus with forest, lakes and a protected megalithic site.

04

India's NIRF 2025 ranked UoH 18th among all universities, and the government has designated it an Institution of Eminence.

Merit is ranked on the programme's core paper(s); candidates must also score at least 50 in the qualifying paper(s) (35 for Integrated M.A. Hindi, Urdu and Telugu; 45% in General Aptitude for Integrated M.Sc. Psychology). The 5-year Integrated M.Tech. admits through JEE Main and JoSAA.
Grades Integrated M.Sc. science programmes require at least 60% marks at +2 level with science subjects.

How to apply

Take CUET-UG (via the National Testing Agency), then apply online on the University of Hyderabad portal (acad.uohyd.ac.in) with a fee of Rs 300 (General), Rs 200 (EWS/OBC-NCL) or Rs 125 (SC/ST/PwD); further programme choices cost nothing. Shortlisted candidates report in person for counselling and document verification. International students apply directly to the Office for International Affairs (and through the Study in India portal), or via ICCR.

What admissions looks for

  • A high CUET-UG score in the core paper(s) for your chosen programme, which alone decides your rank.
  • The minimum mark in each qualifying paper (usually 50).
  • Class 12 results that meet programme eligibility, such as 60% with science subjects for Integrated M.Sc.
  • For international applicants, prior grades, two recommendation letters, proof of funding and English proficiency.

Tips for applying to UoH

  1. 1 Check which CUET-UG papers are 'core' and 'qualifying' for each programme before choosing your CUET subjects; the wrong combination makes you ineligible.
  2. 2 Apply to several UoH programmes: after the first application fee, additional programmes are free.
  3. 3 Watch the acad.uohyd.ac.in site after the first selection list (3 August in 2026): the university publishes waiting lists, and later calls can admit candidates further down the ranking.
  4. 4 International applicants should apply between January and 30 April and register on the Study in India (SII) portal to get the number needed for a visa.
