About BEU
Baku Engineering University was established by presidential decree on 8 November 2016, after the closure of the private Qafqaz University, to improve engineering education in Azerbaijan. It is a public legal entity under Azerbaijan's education ministry (now the Ministry of Science and Education), based on a 20-hectare campus in Khirdalan on the Absheron peninsula just outside Baku, and it teaches in Azerbaijani and English at bachelor's, master's and doctoral level.
BEU has four faculties (Engineering; Information and Computer Technologies; Economics and Administrative Sciences; and Architecture and Construction) with 22 departments and 122 programmes, including 42 bachelor's programmes. For 2026-27 it planned to admit 1,885 Azerbaijani-medium full-time students and 909 into English-taught programmes, from computer science, data analytics and information security to chemical, mechanical and environmental engineering, architecture, finance and even winemaking. THE's 2026 data list about 5,300 students with a student-to-staff ratio of about 10.5 to 1.
Its standout feature is international dual degrees: a state-funded 3+1 programme with INHA University in South Korea, which has already graduated 256 students, and 2+2 and 3+1 programmes with Beijing University of Chemical Technology, including a joint BUCT-BEU Faculty of Engineering opened in April 2026. BEU suits applicants aiming for engineering and IT careers who want English-taught options and a route to study in Asia.
Why students choose BEU
The BEU-INHA dual degree lets students spend three years at BEU and a final year at INHA University in Korea, with tuition and the Korean year fully funded by Azerbaijan's State Oil Fund.
The BUCT-BEU Faculty of Engineering, opened in April 2026, offers a 3+1 route to a second degree from Beijing University of Chemical Technology, with scholarships for top students.

Selectivity
BEU does not publish an acceptance rate. Azerbaijani applicants are placed through the State Examination Center (SEC) national entrance exam and major selection; the 2026-27 plan offered 1,885 Azerbaijani-medium full-time, 135 part-time and 909 English-medium places. The INHA dual degree requires at least 400 of 700 SEC points plus an internal exam. International students apply through the government portal.edu.az.

How to apply
Azerbaijani students take the SEC entrance exam and choose BEU programmes in the SEC major-selection stage. For the INHA dual degree, register online on BEU's INHA portal in July, then sit the internal exam; admitted students skip SEC major selection. International students apply via the government portal.edu.az.
What admissions looks for
- A strong SEC entrance exam score in the relevant specialty group.
- For the INHA dual degree, at least 400/700 SEC points plus strength in Mathematics, Physics and English on the internal exam.
- For the BUCT dual degree routes, strong grades at BEU: a cumulative GPA of 81 or more (2+2) or 91 or more (3+1) for a scholarship year in Beijing.
Tips for applying to BEU
- 1 Aim for 400+ SEC points if you want the INHA dual degree, and register in the short July window before SEC major selection.
- 2 If you are admitted to a BUCT dual-degree major, your grades in the first two or three years decide whether you go to Beijing on a scholarship, as a fee-payer, or stay at BEU.
- 3 Start working on an IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo certificate early if you are in the INHA programme: you need one before going to Korea.
- 4 International applicants should apply through portal.edu.az, the government system for foreign students, rather than directly to BEU.

BEU does not publish tuition fees on its website. The BEU-INHA dual degree is fully funded by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ), covering four years of tuition, the year in Korea, study materials and registration. In the BUCT dual degree, up to 15 students per programme with a CGPA of 81 or more continue in Beijing on a scholarship. BEU also enrols international students funded by the Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant.

Student life
BEU's campus in Khirdalan has separate dormitory buildings for male and female students, with study rooms, a library, assembly and fitness halls, cafeterias, laundry and tailoring services, and the university highlights dorm life as a way for first-years to settle in. Each teaching building has a canteen and cafeteria. The campus has football, basketball and volleyball courts, a gym and a table tennis hall, and BEU runs internal tournaments in football, basketball, volleyball, chess and table tennis. The university reports more than 20 student clubs and 4 youth organisations.

BEU's 20-hectare campus is on Hasan Aliyev Street in Khirdalan, a town in the Absheron district just outside Baku.
