Student Life & Environment

Student life reflects LCAD's small, specialized creative community. Current organizations include groups focused on game development, plein-air art, creative writing, animation, cultural identity, international students, LGBTQ students, and shared recreational interests. LCAD's main address is 2222 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach, Orange County. The campus occupies a canyon setting surrounded by hills and sits close to the Southern California coast. Its facilities are distributed along Laguna Canyon Road rather than concentrated in a large, self-contained university precinct. Downtown Laguna Beach, its shopping and dining, the beachside boardwalk, and local galleries are accessible from the residence-hall area. The location can be academically relevant for artists: LCAD describes community relationships involving galleries, the Laguna Art Museum, arts organizations, retailers, and local nonprofits. Orange County also contains employers in animation, entertainment, gaming, design, and action sports, although proximity does not guarantee an internship or job. Prospective students should examine transportation and housing together. Residence capacity is limited, and off-campus living may require travel from Laguna Beach or surrounding communities.
