About GTU
Gebze Technical University began in 1992 as the Gebze Institute of Technology, one of Türkiye's two institutes of technology, and was restructured and renamed by law in November 2014. It started with graduate teaching in 1994, added its first undergraduate programmes (physics, mathematics, materials science, computer and electronics engineering) in 2001, and most recently opened aeronautical engineering in 2021. The Council of Higher Education designates it a research university.
Teaching is organised in faculties of Science, Engineering, Architecture, Aerospace and Business Administration, plus a Cybersecurity Vocational School and research institutes in areas such as nanotechnology, energy, biotechnology, earth and marine sciences, defence technologies and artificial intelligence. Programmes are taught fully in Turkish, fully in English, or with at least 30% of courses in English, and several are externally accredited: Electronics Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering by MÜDEK with the EUR-ACE label, the sciences by FEDEK and Architecture by MIAK.
The single Çayırova campus covers about 1.5 million square metres of woodland and lawns next to Hünkâr Çayırı, in one of Türkiye's most industrial regions and close to the Informatics Valley technology park. It suits students who want a research-heavy science or engineering degree near Istanbul's industry rather than in the city itself; about 345 international students from 60 countries study there.
Why students choose GTU
The campus has its own Marmaray rail station, giving direct trains to both sides of Istanbul, and is about 15 minutes from Sabiha Gökçen Airport.
Electronics Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering are MÜDEK-accredited with the European EUR-ACE label.
International applicants pay no application fee and can apply with school grades alone or add scores such as SAT, ACT, TR-YÖS or the IB to strengthen their case.
More than 70 student clubs, including an award-winning rowing crew, robotics society and IEEE branch, run about 300 events a year.

- National or international exam results, which GTU says significantly increase the chance of admission.
- Eligibility: all of secondary school completed outside Türkiye and the TRNC.
- Language readiness: B2 Turkish for Turkish-medium programmes, or an English score such as TOEFL iBT 78 to skip preparatory English.
Tips for applying to GTU

- 2 Upload every exam result you have (SAT, TR-YÖS, IB, national exams): applications with scores are significantly more likely to succeed.
- 3 Check each programme's language of instruction: Economics, Geomatics Engineering, City and Regional Planning and Industrial Design are taught fully in Turkish.
- 4 Have your diploma apostilled or certified by a Turkish consulate in advance; it is required at final registration.
