About TU/e

Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) was founded in 1956 by industry, local government and academia, and that link with industry still shapes it. Its campus is in Eindhoven, in the Brainport technology region, and it is organised into nine departments: Applied Physics and Science Education, Biomedical Engineering, Built Environment, Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Design, Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering, plus the Eindhoven School of Education.

All bachelor's degrees run through the TU/e Bachelor College: three-year BSc programmes of four quartiles a year, with 45 ECTS of free electives so students can shape their own profile. Majors include Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences, Automotive Technology, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Design, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Psychology and Technology; Biomedical Engineering and Medical Sciences and Technology are taught partly in Dutch.

TU/e is known for challenge-based learning and its student teams: about 630 students work in more than 30 teams building solar cars, electric race cars, robots and sustainable homes with over 700 partners. It suits hands-on students with strong mathematics (and usually physics) who want an engineering degree closely tied to industry.

Why students choose TU/e

01

More than 30 student teams, including Solar Team Eindhoven, give around 630 students a year real engineering projects with industry partners.

02

The Bachelor College lets you tailor your degree with 45 ECTS of free electives alongside your major.

03

EU/EEA students pay the statutory fee of 2,771 euros in 2027-28; most bachelor's programmes have no selection and a 1 May deadline.

04

The campus sits in the Brainport region, and the university was founded by, and still works closely with, industry.

Admissions

2027-28 entry (applications open 1 October 2026)

Selectivity

No overall admission rate is published. Most bachelor's programmes admit all eligible applicants. For 2027-28, four programmes use selection (numerus fixus): Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences; Computer Science and Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; and the English track of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. Ranking is based on grade point average and the results of online tests or assignments; TU/e says the best fit is 'not always the students with the highest grades'.

Testing No SAT or ACT. Selective programmes require mandatory online selection tests (and, for Architecture, an on-campus selection day). International applicants must submit an English test unless exempt.

Typical entry requirements

A-levels3 GCSEs plus 3 A-levels (A2, not AS) covering six subjects, all at grade A* to C; required A-levels are Mathematics, plus Physics for most engineering majors and Physics and Chemistry for Chemical, Biomedical and Medical Sciences and Technology

What admissions looks for

  • A diploma at Dutch VWO level with mathematics as a final exam subject, plus physics and/or chemistry for most majors.
  • English at IELTS 6.5 (6.0 per section) or equivalent.
  • For selective programmes, a ranking based on grade point average and programme-specific online tests or assignments.
  • TU/e's profile of the 'Engineer of the Future': scientific knowledge plus the ability to collaborate, communicate, think creatively and take initiative.

Tips for applying to TU/e

  1. 1 Check the required subjects for your major: Electrical and Mechanical Engineering need mathematics and physics, and Chemical and Biomedical Engineering also need chemistry.
  2. 2 For Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Architecture, the deadline is 15 January and the online tests are compulsory: put the March test dates in your calendar now.
  3. 3 Book your English test early: TU/e must be able to verify results before the deadline, and Cambridge results can take up to six weeks.
  4. 4 Start looking for housing yourself: TU/e's housing lottery is only for first-year international master's students.

Student life

TU/e's campus is compact, with the renovated Atlas main building at its centre and TU/e innovation Space as the hub for challenge-based learning and student entrepreneurship. The student teams are a defining part of campus life: around 630 students join more than 30 teams each year, building everything from soccer and healthcare robots to solar and electric race cars and sustainable homes. The Bachelor College assumes about 40 hours of study a week. Housing in Eindhoven is competitive, and TU/e's own housing support is limited to first-year international master's students, so bachelor's students search the private market.

  • More than 30 student teams with around 630 members and 700+ partners.
  • TU/e innovation Space for challenge-based learning and start-ups.
  • Honors Academy for students who want an extra challenge.
  • Pre-TU/e offer for prospective students to try the university.

Housing. TU/e's housing lottery is only for first-year international master's students; bachelor's students must find their own accommodation, with rooms around 400 euros and studios around 700 euros a month.

Location

Eindhoven is part of Brainport, a technology region in the south of the Netherlands, and TU/e was founded there in 1956 by industry, local government and academia.
