About AU

Ajman University (AU) was established in 1988 as the first private university in the Gulf Cooperation Council, and says it was the first university in the UAE to admit expatriate students of both genders. First named Ajman University College of Science and Technology and later Ajman University of Science and Technology, it took its current name in 2018 and now operates as a non-profit institution.

AU offers 46 programmes (26 undergraduate, 18 graduate and 2 doctoral), all accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, across nine colleges: Medicine; Dentistry; Pharmacy and Health Sciences; Engineering and Information Technology; Architecture, Art and Design; Business Administration; Law; Mass Communication; and Humanities and Sciences. It holds institutional accreditation from WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) in the US and from the UK's Quality Assurance Agency.

The student body is highly international: THE's 2026 data put international students at 81%. Admission is based on school results, with subject minimums (90% in maths and two sciences for Medicine and Dentistry) and interviews for health programmes. AU suits students who want an English-taught, internationally mixed private university in the UAE with strong health-science and professional programmes.

Why students choose AU

01

Health sciences depth: a College of Medicine (Doctor of Medicine), a College of Dentistry and a College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on one campus.

02

Dual international accreditation: WSCUC in the US and the UK's QAA, which AU says made it one of the first six institutions worldwide with QAA global accreditation (2020).

03

Modern programmes such as BSc degrees in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics and Digital Dental Technology.

04

A very international student body: AU says it ranks 2nd in the UAE for international students in the QS rankings.

How to apply

Apply online, uploading school certificates and transcripts (with a UAE Ministry of Education equivalency for foreign certificates), a passport with valid residence permit or visa documents, Emirates ID where applicable, a certificate of good conduct, a photo and a UAE medical report, then pay the non-refundable application fee. Tips for applying to AU

  1. 1 Check the subject minimums, not just your overall average: Engineering needs 80% in maths and physics, Medicine and Dentistry 90% in maths and two sciences.
  2. 2 Start the UAE Ministry of Education equivalency and attestation early if you studied outside the UAE; you can begin with unattested copies.
  3. 3 Aim for IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 79 if you want Medicine; other English-taught programmes need IELTS 5.0 or iBT 61.
  4. 4 Get your medical report done in the UAE: AU does not accept medical reports made abroad.
  5. 5 Ask about discounts: AU offers tuition discounts for high-school averages of 90% or above and for siblings and relatives enrolled at the same time.
