About UniTo
The University of Turin was founded in 1404 by a papal bull and is one of Italy's largest universities, with about 83,000 students in 2024/25. Erasmus of Rotterdam took his degree here in 1506, and in the 1930s the anatomist Giuseppe Levi trained three future Nobel laureates in medicine: Salvador Luria, Rita Levi-Montalcini and Renato Dulbecco. The university also produced writers and thinkers such as Primo Levi, Cesare Pavese and Norberto Bobbio.
Teaching and research are run by 27 departments, eight of which are Italian Departments of Excellence for 2023-2027, including Law, Oncology, Historical Studies and Neurosciences. The university offers about 70 bachelor's degrees, 10 single-cycle degrees and about 90 master's degrees, with more than 25 programmes and curricula taught entirely in English. Its best-known modern building is the Campus Luigi Einaudi, opened in 2012, which the university describes as one of the ten most spectacular university buildings in the world.
For undergraduates who do not speak Italian, the English-taught options are Business and Management, Economics and Finance with Data Science, Global Law and Transnational Legal Studies, and a six-year Medicine and Surgery degree. Turin suits students who want a large, research-active public university with low, income-linked fees in a major northern Italian city.

Selectivity
UniTo publishes no overall admission rate. Open-access bachelor's degrees require a CISIA TOLC (or TARM) test but admit all eligible applicants; restricted-access degrees rank applicants by test score (SAT or TOLC) against a fixed number of places, and Medicine and Surgery in English has its own admission test.

UniTo has not yet published the 2027-28 calendar. The dates shown are from the 2026-27 cycle; for non-EU applicants the Apply@UniTo window (February to mid-April) and the mid-July Universitaly deadline are the ones to plan around. Later calls in 2026 were reserved to Italian, EU and equivalent applicants.
How to apply
Students with a foreign qualification apply on Apply@UniTo (60 euro fee, up to two programmes), then sit the required SAT or TOLC and pre-enrol for their course on the UniTo portal. Non-EU students who need a visa must also submit a Universitaly pre-enrolment for one programme and apply for a study visa before final enrolment.
What admissions looks for
- A foreign qualification that is recognised in its own system and comparable to the Italian diploma; substantial differences can lead to refusal even after passing a test.
- A strong SAT score for Business and Management and Economics and Finance with Data Science, or the relevant TOLC for other restricted-access degrees.
- Italian at B2 for Italian-taught degrees if you are a non-EU applicant living abroad.
- Complete, correctly timed applications: Apply@UniTo, the course pre-enrolment and, for visa applicants, Universitaly.
Tips for applying to UniTo
- 1 Take the SAT early: for the English-taught business and economics degrees, a SAT from 2 January 2025 onwards counts, and the first ranking uses scores up to early June.
- 2 Use your two Apply@UniTo choices strategically; the 60 euro fee covers up to two programmes.
- 3 When you register for a TOLC with CISIA, enter your name in Latin characters so your Italian tax code appears on the results; results without it are not accepted.
- 4 Non-EU applicants can pick only one programme on Universitaly, so settle your choice before the mid-July deadline.

Fees are set by ISEE for students with Italian income, with no contribution for first-year students up to an ISEE of 26,000 euros; EDISU Piemonte scholarship holders are exempt from the contribution. Students resident abroad pay a flat amount based on their country's GDP per capita, or can submit an ISEE Parificato. UniTo funds scholarships for international students, such as 40 two-year Talent 4 UniTo awards of 20,000 euros for English-taught master's degrees, and UNICORE places for refugees.

Student life
UniTo is an urban university spread across Turin, with further sites in towns such as Grugliasco, Orbassano, Cuneo and Savigliano. Its landmark is the Campus Luigi Einaudi, opened in 2012, while the historic Palazzo dell'Università on via Po has been a seat since 1720. The university hosts about 1,200 incoming Erasmus students a year and students from 130 countries. EDISU Piemonte runs scholarships, residences and canteens, and the library system has 22 libraries across 33 sites.

Turin is the capital of Piedmont in north-west Italy, near the Alps.
