Student Life & Environment

UPT provides a substantial set of student services across its urban facilities. The university reports 16 student residences, two cafeterias, a central library, sports complexes, and a student healthcare center. Residence availability and allocation rules vary by student category; the published 2026–2027 Erasmus guidance, for example, says exchange students who submit the required forms by the deadline can be housed, mainly in Residence 11C. That assurance should not be generalized to every full-degree applicant. The university library supports individual and group work with reading rooms, reservable group-study rooms, digital resources, an IT area, printing and scanning services, and a separate reading room accessible around the clock with a student card. Study areas are also available in faculties, residences, and the university’s coworking facilities. Students can participate in faculty leagues, technical clubs, cultural projects, volunteering, and student representation. COSPol serves as an umbrella structure for student organizations, while faculty organizations run educational, cultural, social, and sports activities. Technical participation can include project teams such as the university’s Formula Student group. UPT also advertises Erasmus mobility and a buddy program for incoming international students. Sports infrastructure includes indoor and outdoor pools, fitness and jogging areas, football, tennis, basketball, volleyball, and handball facilities. Location & Surroundings

UPT is based in Timișoara, the principal city of Romania’s western Banat region, near the borders with Hungary and Serbia. The rectorate is at Piața Victoriei in the historic central area, while teaching buildings, the library, residences, cafeterias, and sports sites are distributed across several parts of the city. Prospective students should therefore check the address of their faculty and residence rather than treating UPT as a single compact campus. The main student complex places accommodation and everyday services near university facilities, while central academic buildings connect students with Timișoara’s civic and cultural core. This urban layout can make restaurants, shops, events, and public services part of daily student life, but commute patterns differ by faculty. The Faculty of Engineering in Hunedoara is outside Timișoara and should be evaluated as a distinct study location. International students arriving for full-degree study should plan accommodation before travel and follow the international office’s enrollment and residence instructions. Exchange guidance explicitly warns that the office cannot arrange private accommodation and advises students not to arrive without an initial place to stay.

Costs & Career Outcomes

Costs depend on citizenship, degree level, and field. For 2026–2027, UPT’s non-EU admissions page lists annual tuition of EUR 1,980 for the Romanian-language preparatory year and for bachelor’s or master’s study in communication sciences, administrative sciences, or applied modern languages; EUR 2,430 for technical and computing bachelor’s or master’s programs; and EUR 3,150 for architecture. Listed doctoral tuition is EUR 3,480 per year in engineering and EUR 4,440 in architecture. These figures apply to the stated non-EU category and should not be treated as domestic or EU fee schedules. A non-refundable EUR 100 file-processing fee applies to non-EU preparatory-year, bachelor’s, and master’s applications. Housing charges also depend on status and residence. The 2026–2027 exchange guidance quotes approximately EUR 65 per month for Residence 11C and a refundable RON 600 cash deposit at arrival. Rooms are normally shared by two students, utilities are included, and kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms are shared. This is exchange-student guidance, not a guaranteed price or placement for full-degree students, who should request their own current residence terms. Career preparation is closely connected to UPT’s technical orientation. Curricula and research operate across computing, energy, transport, manufacturing, construction, electronics, materials, and related areas. Students can develop applied experience through laboratories, research centers, technical teams, mobility, and internships.
