URCA is an autonomous public scientific, cultural and professional institution within the French higher-education system. Its historical account traces the University of Reims to a papal foundation in 1548. That institution closed in 1793, and university education returned progressively during the 1960s. The official history says URCA has existed in its current form since 1967, was constituted from successive faculties and institutes in 1971, and adopted the Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne name in 1982. The university is regional rather than confined to a single central campus. Official 2025–2026 figures report 23,749 students in Reims, 3,156 in Troyes, 885 in Charleville-Mézières, 587 in Châlons-en-Champagne and 130 in Chaumont. These city totals should not be interpreted as a single residential campus population. Applicants need to check where their chosen course is delivered, because the academic environment, travel arrangements and available services differ by site. URCA combines broad general education with professional institutes, engineering schools and health education. Its organization includes nine teaching and research faculties or comparable units, two university institutes of technology, teacher education, two engineering schools, a vine-and-wine institute and doctoral schools. French is the normal language of instruction for much of the portfolio; applicants seeking English-taught study should confirm the teaching language on the individual program page rather than assuming university-wide English availability.

Admission is program- and applicant-specific. For entry to the first year of a licence or BUT, eligible applicants generally use France’s national Parcoursup system. For the 2026–2027 intake, URCA’s international admissions page listed 19 January to 12 March 2026 for relevant first-year Parcoursup applications. First-year master applications used Mon Master, with a 17 February to 16 March 2026 application period. Engineering, later-year, second-year master, health and doctoral routes have separate procedures. Those dates apply to the 2026–2027 cycle and should not be reused for a later intake without checking the current official page. International degree-seeking applicants from countries covered by the Études en France procedure must apply through that platform, and URCA makes only selected programs available there. For 2026–2027 first-year study, the published Études en France window ran from 1 October to 15 December 2025. Applicants outside participating countries may instead need the French preliminary-admission process for Licence 1 or the appropriate national or institutional platform for their intended level. URCA recommends French at B2 level for international applicants across its fields and may require evidence through the relevant procedure, subject to stated exemptions. This is not a universal English-language admissions system: candidates should verify the program’s teaching language, academic prerequisites, required documents and campus before submission. An admission decision must be obtained before administrative enrolment can be completed.

The training catalogue spans four broad fields: arts, literature and languages; law, economics and management; humanities and social sciences; and science, technology and health. Separate catalogue access is also provided for education, health and other specialized study. The university’s components include faculties for letters and humanities, economics and management, law and political science, exact and natural sciences, sport sciences, medicine and midwifery, pharmacy, and dentistry. The Campus des Comtes de Champagne supplies an additional multidisciplinary base in Troyes. Professionally oriented routes are offered through the IUT de Reims–Châlons–Charleville and IUT de Troyes, the Inspé teacher-education institute, ESIREIMS and EiSINe engineering schools, and the Institut Georges Chappaz devoted to vines and wine in Champagne. Awards therefore extend beyond the licence-master-doctorate structure to qualifications such as BUT, engineering and regulated health degrees. Official 2025–2026 figures identify 33 recognized research teams and four doctoral schools, with 472 doctoral candidates, including 199 international doctoral candidates. Doctoral study is consequently a verified part of URCA’s degree activity, but admission depends on the relevant doctoral school, research topic, supervision and funding arrangements rather than the general undergraduate application process.

Student services are distributed across URCA’s sites. The 2026–2027 student guide describes a university health service with fixed locations at the Croix-Rouge and Moulin de la Housse campuses in Reims and at the Maison des Étudiants in Troyes, plus activities in Charleville-Mézières, Châlons-en-Champagne and the Troyes IUT. Its remit includes preventive health assessments and access to professionals in areas such as psychology, nutrition and sexual health. Availability varies by location, so students outside Reims should check which appointments are offered locally. Campus support also includes disability assistance, orientation, international relations, language services, student entrepreneurship and career guidance. Student initiatives can receive support through university life structures, while sport, cultural programming, libraries and CROUS dining form part of the wider campus environment described in the student guide. Housing is not automatically supplied with admission. URCA directs students toward CROUS residences, its Studapart partner platform and private-market options. Procedures differ for French students, international degree-seeking students and exchange participants. Location & Surroundings

URCA’s headquarters and largest concentration of students are in Reims, but it is a multi-city institution. Reims has three principal academic areas: Croix-Rouge, which houses humanities, law, political science, economics and management; Moulin de la Housse, associated with sciences and sport; and the health campus. Dentistry and the Reims IUT also have their own addresses. This dispersed layout makes the exact teaching location more useful than the general university address when comparing accommodation. Outside Reims, URCA operates the Campus des Comtes de Champagne and an IUT in Troyes; a shared site for the Inspé and IUT in Châlons-en-Champagne; Campus Sup Ardenne in Charleville-Mézières; and an Inspé teaching location in Chaumont. Program choice may therefore determine the city in which a student lives. Reims itself is closely associated with Champagne production and French history. Its cathedral, the Palace of Tau and related Saint-Remi monuments form a UNESCO World Heritage grouping. These cultural assets add context to the city, but students should base practical decisions on the commute to their assigned campus rather than proximity to the historic center.

Costs & Career Outcomes

For 2026–2027, tuition depends on nationality, residence status, qualification and possible exemption. URCA states that national registration charges for eligible French, EU/EEA and other covered students are set annually by regulation. It introduced differentiated fees for newly affected non-EU students in 2026–2027: €2,902 for a year of BUT or licence study and €3,950 for a year of master or engineering study. The university lists excluded categories, transitional protection for some students continuing the same cycle, and a process for requesting a partial exemption based particularly on personal resources. Applicants should obtain an individual fee determination rather than applying these figures indiscriminately. Students in initial education must normally also address the CVEC before enrolment. URCA listed the 2026–2027 CVEC as €105, with statutory exemptions for specified groups. Tuition and the CVEC do not include accommodation, meals, transport, insurance or personal expenses. Housing prices were not presented as a single university-wide amount because students live across several cities and housing types.
