About Nottingham
The University of Nottingham grew out of University College Nottingham, which opened in 1881, and received its royal charter as a university in 1948. In the 1920s the college moved from the city centre to University Park, a large landscaped campus with a lake, made possible by land given by Jesse Boot, the founder of Boots. Nottingham also runs campuses in Malaysia (opened 2000) and Ningbo, China (2006), so students can often spend time studying at a sister campus abroad.
Teaching is organised into five faculties: Arts; Engineering; Medicine and Health Sciences; Science; and Social Sciences. In Nottingham itself, most students are based at University Park or the modern Jubilee Campus, where Computer Science is taught. THE's strongest subject results for Nottingham are Law (81st), Education (=80th), Business and Economics (=88th) and Medical and Health (90th). Research at Nottingham includes Sir Peter Mansfield's Nobel Prize-winning work on MRI.
Nottingham suits students who want a classic green campus close to a lively, affordable city, and who value employability: the university says it is first in the UK for graduates entering highly skilled jobs in the latest Graduate Outcomes data. With around 35,000 students, it is large enough for almost any course combination.
