About UJ
The University of Jordan (UJ) was established by royal decree in 1962 and is Jordan's first and largest university. Its main campus is in the Jubeiha area of Amman, the capital, and it has a second branch in the Red Sea port city of Aqaba. UJ says it has more than 270,000 graduates and more than 7,000 international students from over 130 countries.
UJ offers 106 bachelor's programmes and more than 300 programmes in total across its schools, which span Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Rehabilitation Sciences, Engineering, the King Abdullah II School of Information Technology, Science, Agriculture, Business, Law, Sharia, Arts, Foreign Languages, International Studies and more. It reports international accreditation for 55 programmes in 11 schools, and it runs the Jordan University Hospital.
Health sciences are its strongest suit internationally: in the QS Subject Rankings 2026 UJ placed 35th in Nursing and 46th in both Pharmacy and Education. International students are admitted to a separate International Programme priced in US dollars and can apply at almost any time of year, except for Medicine and Dentistry, which follow the academic calendar. UJ suits students who want a large, established Arab university with strong professional programmes, especially in the health sciences.

Admissions
2026-27 and 2027-28 intakes (international programme admits on a rolling basis)
Selectivity
UJ does not publish an acceptance rate. Admission to the International Programme is competitive, based on the secondary-school average, with minimum averages set by programme; Medicine and Dentistry require the highest averages. Jordanian students are admitted to the regular programme or to UJ's Parallel Programme, which is charged in Jordanian dinars.
Typical entry requirements
| Jordanian Tawjihi (General Secondary Education Certificate) | Programme-specific minimum average, from 50-65% for most programmes to 80-85% for Medicine and Dentistry depending on the UJ page; transcript certified by Jordan's Ministry of Education |
|---|---|
| Arab national certificates (e.g. Saudi, other Arab boards) | Same minimum averages; certificate authenticated or given equivalence by Jordan's Ministry of Education |
| International certificates (IB, SAT, IGCSE/GCE) | Equivalence from Jordan's Ministry of Education showing the average and stream; can be completed during the first semester if not possible before arrival |
Deadlines
UJ says registration for international students is open throughout the academic year, except for Medicine and Dentistry, where registration follows the academic calendar, which normally starts in October. No fixed 2027 deadline is published.
How to apply
International students apply online through the national Study in Jordan portal (studyinjordan.jo), choosing the University of Jordan under public universities, then upload transcripts and pay the application fee (USD 140). After admission, students pay an admission fee and complete Ministry of Education equivalency for foreign certificates. Jordanian students apply to the regular programme or to UJ's Parallel Programme.
What admissions looks for
- A secondary-school average at or above the minimum for the chosen programme; admission to the International Programme is competitive on this average.
- A certificate that qualifies you for the chosen college and specialisation under the criteria of Jordan's Higher Education Council.
- Properly authenticated documents and Ministry of Education equivalency for Arab and foreign certificates.
- Proof of good conduct from any previous institution for students transferring from another university.
Tips for applying to UJ
- 1 Start the Ministry of Education equivalency for IB, SAT or IGCSE/GCE certificates early; UJ lets you finish it in your first semester but you need it to complete admission.
- 2 If you want Medicine or Dentistry, apply in time for the October start: these are the only programmes that do not admit international students year-round.
- 3 Budget for the full degree, not just a year: UJ prices International Programme degrees per credit hour, from USD 100 an hour in many humanities programmes to USD 500 in Medicine and Dentistry.
- 4 International Programme students cannot later transfer to the cheaper regular or Parallel Programmes, so choose your route carefully.
- 5 Check whether you need a study visa in advance: most students get a visa on arrival (about USD 55), but nationals of restricted countries must go through UJ's Foreign Students Affairs Office first.
