About UniBa

The University of Bari was founded in 1925 and in 2010 was renamed after Aldo Moro, the five-time Italian prime minister who studied law there and later taught at the university. It is a large public university with campuses in Bari, Brindisi and Taranto, and it offers about 120 degree programmes at bachelor's, master's and doctoral level, grouped into five broad areas: economics and law, medicine and health, sciences, social sciences, and humanities and languages.

Teaching and research are organised in departments that range from Translational Biomedicine and Neuroscience, Veterinary Medicine and an Inter-University Physics department to Computer Science, Law and a Taranto-based department of legal and economic systems of the Mediterranean. Most degrees are taught in Italian, but there is a growing English-taught offer: a bachelor's in Earth System and Global Changes, a six-year Medicine and Surgery degree taught in English at the Policlinico, and master's degrees such as Computer Science, Physics, Data Science and Materials Science and Technology.

Like most Italian public universities, Bari is not selective in the Anglo-American sense: many programmes are open access, while others have a fixed number of places and an entrance test. It suits students who want low fees, a southern Mediterranean city and a big, mostly Italian-speaking university, and who are ready to handle Italy's paperwork: pre-evaluation on DreamApply, a Universitaly pre-enrolment for visa applicants, and an ISEE or country-group fee assessment.

Admissions

2027/28 entry (procedures and dates below are from the 2026/27 cycle)

Selectivity

No overall admission rate is published. Many programmes are open access (no entry test), while limited-access programmes have a fixed number of places and an entrance exam or selection. Places for non-EU applicants living abroad are capped per programme each year, for example 50 for the English-taught Earth System and Global Changes bachelor's and 8 for the English-taught Medicine and Surgery degree in 2026/27.

Testing Limited-access programmes use entrance tests or selection procedures set in each call. Italian-taught Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine use the national open-access filter semester. Non-EU applicants living abroad who choose Italian-taught bachelor's or single-cycle degrees must pass the university's Italian test (an online interview) unless they hold a CLIQ certificate at B2 or another exemption.

Typical entry requirements

Secondary school diplomaA foreign secondary qualification that gives access to university, submitted for pre-evaluation on DreamApply with transcripts, translations and a Declaration of Value or CIMEA comparability statement
Italian-taught programmes (non-EU applicants living abroad)Italian at B2: a CLIQ certificate (e.g. Perugia, Siena, Roma Tre, Dante Alighieri) or the university's oral Italian test; C1/C2 certificates and Italian schools abroad exempt applicants from both the test and the quota
Limited-access programmesPass the programme's entrance exam or selection within the published number of places
English language Bari's international pages do not publish a single English test score; English-taught programmes set their own language requirements in each programme's call, so check the programme page before applying.

  2. Universitaly pre-enrolment (visa applicants, open-access programmes) Non-binding Passed

For limited-access programmes the deadline is the registration deadline for that programme's entrance exam.

  3. DreamApply pre-evaluation: EU applicants and non-EU applicants not needing a visa Non-binding Passed
    30 September 2026 (2026/27 cycle)
  4. Enrolment in open-access programmes Non-binding Next deadline · In 55 days

Online enrolment ran from 3 August to 30 November 2026; the first fee instalment is paid at enrolment.

Bari had not published its 2027/28 calendar when checked; the dates shown are from the 2026/27 cycle. If you need a visa, expect the DreamApply deadline for 2027/28 to fall around the end of June 2027 and plan the Universitaly pre-enrolment and embassy appointment well before that.

How to apply

All applicants with a foreign qualification first apply for pre-evaluation on DreamApply (apply.uniba.it), uploading passport, diploma, transcripts and proof of the 30-euro application fee. Non-EU applicants living abroad who need a visa must then complete a pre-enrolment on Universitaly after a positive DreamApply evaluation, download the Universitaly acceptance report and book a type D study visa appointment at the Italian embassy or consulate. After arrival, students get a tax code, apply for a residence permit within 8 days and complete enrolment and fee payment on Esse3.

What admissions looks for

  • A secondary qualification that gives access to university studies, with complete and verifiable documents.
  • For Italian-taught programmes, Italian at B2 level shown by a CLIQ certificate or the university's interview-based test.
  • For limited-access programmes, a place in the ranking of the entrance exam or selection.
  • For non-EU applicants living abroad, a place within the programme's reserved quota.

Tips for applying to UniBa

  1. 1 If you need a visa, finish DreamApply well before the end of June: Universitaly pre-enrolment only opens to you after a positive evaluation.
  2. 2 Check the reserved non-EU quota for your programme: some Italian-taught courses have 0 to 2 places, while English-taught options such as Earth System and Global Changes had 50.
  3. 3 Declare your family's country of residence at enrolment: families abroad now pay a fixed contribution by country group instead of the ISEE-based rate.
  4. 4 A CLIQ Italian certificate at B2 saves you the Italian interview, and C1 or C2 exempts you from the non-EU quota for bachelor's and single-cycle degrees.
