Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, usually called UVSQ, is a public French university founded in 1991 and located across several communities west of Paris. It remains a separately registered institution while participating in Université Paris-Saclay. UVSQ offers more than 200 programs spanning undergraduate university study, master’s education, engineering, health fields and doctoral research. Teaching is primarily in French, so applicants should check the language and academic prerequisites on the page for their intended program. The multi-site structure is important when comparing options: faculties and services are distributed among Versailles, Guyancourt, Mantes-en-Yvelines, Rambouillet, Vélizy and other nearby locations. For students considering the 2026–2027 intake, national and university-specific application routes vary by qualification, study level, residence and nationality.

About Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines

UVSQ was officially created on 22 July 1991. It is a national public university with its own legal registration and administration, notwithstanding its membership in the wider Université Paris-Saclay structure. That distinction matters for applicants: some degrees and admissions processes are managed directly by UVSQ, while certain master’s programs use Paris-Saclay systems. The university is organized across ten academic components. These include faculties or institutes covering law and political science, cultural and international studies, management, engineering, technology, sciences, social sciences, health and environmental observation. Its official catalogue listed more than 200 programs in 2026, ranging from two-year postsecondary study through doctoral education. Continuing education is available across the catalogue, and many courses can also be followed through apprenticeship arrangements. UVSQ is not a single compact campus in central Versailles. Its teaching, libraries and student services operate across multiple sites in the western Paris region. Applicants should therefore identify the teaching location of a specific program before choosing housing or estimating travel. Membership in the Paris-Saclay network expands access to associated academic and library resources, but the student’s administrative institution and campus still depend on the selected course. French is the institution’s principal language of instruction, although individual program pages may specify other language requirements or teaching arrangements.

How Admissions Work

Admission is course- and applicant-specific. For the 2026–2027 intake, first-time entrants may arrive through Parcoursup, UVSQ’s e-Candidature system, Mon Master, Études en France or a Université Paris-Saclay application, depending on study level and program. Admission must be secured before administrative and academic registration. First-year undergraduate access through Parcoursup remains conditional on obtaining the baccalauréat or an accepted equivalent. Applications to the first year of a national master’s degree used Mon Master in 2026. The main submission window ran from 17 February to 16 March 2026, followed by main and supplementary admission phases. These dates describe the 2026–2027 cycle and should not be reused for a later intake. EU, Icelandic, Liechtenstein and Norwegian applicants generally follow the same route as French applicants. Non-EU applicants with foreign qualifications may need the Demande d’Admission Préalable or Études en France, depending on residence, prior education, level and country. The 2026–2027 DAP submission deadline was 15 December 2025. Other routes include Parcoursup for first-year BUT study and e-Candidature for certain later-year licence, BUT and UVSQ master applications. Paris-Saclay master’s programs use the relevant Paris-Saclay platform. Applicants educated outside France should also expect to demonstrate French proficiency where the selected course requires it. Because routes differ significantly, the current program page and applicant-category instructions should be treated as controlling.

Academic Experience

UVSQ’s degree catalogue covers licences, professional licences, masters and doctoral study, alongside university technology qualifications, medicine and health education, engineering programs and institution-specific credentials. The official catalogue states that its provision extends from bac+2 to doctorate level. Students should not assume that every credential maps neatly onto the bachelor–master–doctorate structure: French awards such as the BUT, engineering diploma and university diplomas have their own formats and admission rules. The breadth of study includes science, social science, law and political science, management, cultural and international studies, engineering, health and environmental fields. ISTY, the university’s engineering school, lists routes in computing, mechatronics, embedded electronic systems and digital systems for industry. Health provision includes university study in medicine and related disciplines. Doctoral candidates follow research-oriented routes, while many taught programs incorporate professional experience, apprenticeship or continuing-education options. Program-level checking is essential. Entry level, prerequisites, campus, language expectations, application platform and whether a course is awarded solely by UVSQ or within Paris-Saclay can differ. Some first-year science availability and international application routes also change by intake. Prospective students should use the current course record rather than treating the institution-wide catalogue as an assurance that every listed option is open in 2026–2027. The distributed library network includes facilities serving Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Versailles, Boulogne, Mantes, Rambouillet and Vélizy, plus access routes to Paris-Saclay libraries.

Key Highlights

  • Public university founded on 22 July 1991
  • Separately registered institution participating in Université Paris-Saclay
  • More than 200 programs listed in the official 2026 catalogue
  • Ten faculties, schools and institutes across multiple sites

Student Life & Environment

Student life is distributed across UVSQ’s sites rather than concentrated in one residential campus. The Maison de l’étudiant Marta Pan in Guyancourt brings together student services and spaces for meetings, performances and other activities. University services also support student associations, cultural projects and sport. Registered students can seek help to create an association, apply for project funding, borrow equipment and reserve certain university spaces. The university sports service organizes curricular, competitive and recreational activity. It also provides adapted arrangements for students with disabilities and sport-health initiatives. Cultural, sporting, social and association-based activities may be available as optional academic units, although eligibility and credit recognition depend on the student’s course. Practical support covers health, disability, social assistance, housing guidance and orientation. For 2026–2027 housing, UVSQ warns that CROUS places primarily favor scholarship holders and international exchange students; other applicants should plan for limited availability and consider partner residences or external platforms. Housing is not guaranteed, and students should search early because the teaching site may be some distance from Versailles or central Paris. The university’s student-association service and orientation team are useful contact points for building community and navigating the multi-campus structure.

Location & Surroundings

UVSQ operates in the Yvelines area west of Paris, with major activity in Versailles and Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines and additional sites serving Mantes-en-Yvelines, Rambouillet and Vélizy. Some health and library facilities are located elsewhere in the surrounding region. The result is an urban and suburban university network rather than one enclosed campus. Location should be evaluated at program level. A student admitted to a course in Guyancourt will have a different daily journey from someone studying in Versailles, Mantes or Vélizy. UVSQ’s 2026 housing guidance notes that travel to a study site in the Paris region can be lengthy even where public transport connections are available. Applicants should compare the exact teaching address, timetable and transport options before signing a lease. The region offers access to the employment, research and cultural environment of western Île-de-France and the broader Paris-Saclay area. At the same time, living near central Paris is not automatically the most convenient choice. Housing near the relevant campus or along a direct transport route may provide a more practical student experience.

Costs & Career Outcomes

For 2026–2027, UVSQ states that statutory university registration charges range from €178 to €630 according to the qualification, excluding any specific additional charges. University diplomas can carry their own course-specific fee. Students registering simultaneously for two different qualifications may owe a fee for each, subject to regulatory exceptions and reduced-rate provisions. UVSQ’s 2026 policy grants eligible non-EU students admitted to national first- or second-cycle qualifications a partial exemption so that they pay the same registration amount as domestic students, within stated limits on the number of exempted years. Students should verify that their precise qualification is covered. The CVEC is normally required before registration, unless the student falls within an exempt category. Online card payments of at least €178 could be split into three installments in 2026–2027 when the first payment was made by 15 October 2026. Housing, transport, food and other living expenses are separate and can vary substantially by campus and accommodation type. Career support is provided through UVSQ’s Orientation and Professional Integration service. Students can obtain individual or group guidance on study planning, career direction, CVs, cover letters, interviews, internships and employment applications. Appointments are offered at Guyancourt and Versailles and remotely. The university also provides internship information and access to selected vacancies and alumni-network opportunities. Outcomes depend on the program and individual experience; the reviewed sources do not justify a university-wide salary or employment-rate claim.
