The institution became Université de Toulon et du Var by government decree on 22 February 1979, following earlier higher-education development in Toulon. It later adopted its current name and became autonomous in 2012. It is legally organized as an Établissement Public à caractère Scientifique, Culturel et Professionnel, or EPSCP, governed by an elected president and university councils. This confirms that it is a public university rather than a private training provider or a branch of another institution. For 2026 entry, first-year licence and first-year BUT candidates generally apply through Parcoursup. Applications to L2, L3, professional licence, later BUT years, and M2 generally use the university’s eCandidat platform. Student Life & Environment

Student experience varies by site. La Garde is the largest and most conventional campus environment: a 32-hectare landscaped site with university services, two libraries, sports facilities, four CROUS dining points, and three CROUS-managed residences. Its sports complex includes indoor and outdoor facilities. The more urban Toulon–Porte d’Italie site provides two libraries, student spaces, a cafeteria, coworking space, health and disability support, career services, and a fitness room. Draguignan is smaller and serves selected law and IUT programs. University-wide support includes a student health service, social assistance, disability accommodations, sport, culture, and guidance on orientation and employment. International students can access integration activities, a buddy program, and free French-language and French-civilization classes. Exchange students receive priority consideration for CROUS campus housing subject to availability; independently enrolled international students are instead guided through the housing search, so accommodation should not be treated as guaranteed. Location & Surroundings

The university is distributed across three locations in the Var rather than centered on a single campus. La Garde, shared geographically with La Valette-du-Var, contains the university headquarters and most science, engineering, sport, languages, humanities, and IUT activity. The 32-hectare site lies near commercial and employment areas and is connected to surrounding towns by bus routes and cycle paths. Toulon–Porte d’Italie is an urban academic site with law, economics and management, information-communication, and multimedia activity. Its addresses are close to central Toulon, making it distinct in atmosphere and daily logistics from La Garde. Draguignan, farther inland, has a smaller law presence and an IUT business-administration department. This geography is decision-relevant for housing and commuting. Applicants should identify the campus attached to their exact program before choosing accommodation. Living in central Toulon may suit a Porte d’Italie course but create a commute to La Garde; students placed in Draguignan should not plan around Toulon services without checking travel time and local availability.

Costs & Career Outcomes

For 2026–2027, the university lists provisional national registration fees of €178 for licence-level study, €255 for master’s study, €398 for a doctorate, and €630 for engineering study, all subject to regulatory confirmation. Students must normally also obtain a CVEC payment or exemption certificate before registration. CROUS scholarship recipients are exempt from university registration fees and the CVEC when they can provide the required award documentation. Costs for non-EU students require particular caution. As of August 2026, the university’s central fee page said its differentiated 2026–2027 rates for extra-community students were still being updated.
