Student experience varies across UNICAEN’s distributed campuses, so applicants should consult services for the actual teaching site attached to their course. In Caen, the university and Crous Normandie provide a network of university restaurants and cafeterias. Some dining points operate only around meal periods, while others have longer hours, including selected evening or weekend service. Payment is available through the Izly system linked to the student card. Housing is not automatically included with admission. Crous Normandie manages furnished university residences, generally located near campuses and public transport, while Lokaviz lists private offers checked by Crous. The university also provides access to a partner rental platform and refers students who are struggling to the student-life office. Because accommodation is allocated separately, candidates should begin their search once their study location and admission status are clear. Campus participation extends beyond classes. UNICAEN reports more than 100 student associations across its campuses, with around 50 formally partnered with the institution. Location & Surroundings

The university’s main address is on Esplanade de la Paix in Caen, but UNICAEN is not a single-campus institution. Its academic and service network extends across the Caen metropolitan area and to Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, Alençon, Lisieux, Saint-Lô and Vire. Applicants should confirm the location of every shortlisted course because commuting patterns, accommodation markets and campus facilities vary substantially across these places. Campus 1 sits close to central Caen and the château. The university’s international transport guidance says the city centre is about five minutes away on foot via the castle. Caen’s Twisto bus and tram network serves the university’s Caen campuses and university residences, with tram connections also passing through the railway station. Night buses serve the principal campuses and nightlife areas. The university additionally notes that the urban network reaches the coast, although the practical journey will depend on route and timetable. The regional footprint offers access to different parts of Normandy but should not be understood as a set of interchangeable campuses. A student based in Cherbourg, Alençon or another regional site will use local services and transport rather than Campus 1 facilities. Housing decisions should therefore follow confirmation of the program’s actual teaching location.

Costs & Career Outcomes

The latest detailed fee schedule located during this review applies to 2025–2026, not 2026–2027. For that year, UNICAEN listed national-degree registration charges of €178 for licence, €254 for master and €397 for doctorate, plus a €105 Contribution de vie étudiante et de campus for non-exempt students in initial education. The university also stated that non-EU students received an automatic partial waiver of differentiated fees and instead paid the same listed registration rates as EU students. These amounts must not be treated as confirmed 2026–2027 prices; candidates should check the new annual schedule before registering. University diplomas, distance study, continuing education and some other formats can carry separate charges. The university’s March 2026 budget guidance estimated housing at roughly €275 per month for a Crous room to €600 in a private residence, with one month’s rent commonly required as a deposit. It also gave indicative costs of €3.30 for a university-restaurant meal, about €30 per month for an under-26 Twisto transport subscription and around €50 per year for rental insurance. These are planning figures rather than guaranteed prices, and actual costs depend on site and accommodation type. Career preparation is embedded unevenly across programs. The official catalogue says initial education can include placements, while BUT courses use workplace projects, placements or alternance and professional licences require a 12-to-16-week placement.
