Founded in 1432, Université de Caen Normandie combines a long institutional history with a large, regionally distributed university structure. The institution was disrupted and reorganized several times over the centuries, and much of Caen was destroyed during the Second World War. Applicants should confirm the location of every shortlisted course because commuting patterns, accommodation markets and campus facilities vary substantially across these places. Campus 1 sits close to central Caen and the château. The university’s international transport guidance says the city centre is about five minutes away on foot via the castle. Caen’s Twisto bus and tram network serves the university’s Caen campuses and university residences, with tram connections also passing through the railway station. Night buses serve the principal campuses and nightlife areas. The university additionally notes that the urban network reaches the coast, although the practical journey will depend on route and timetable. The regional footprint offers access to different parts of Normandy but should not be understood as a set of interchangeable campuses. The latest detailed fee schedule located during this review applies to 2025–2026, not 2026–2027. For that year, UNICAEN listed national-degree registration charges of €178 for licence, €254 for master and €397 for doctorate, plus a €105 Contribution de vie étudiante et de campus for non-exempt students in initial education.
