Université Bretagne Sud is an independent public university established by decree on 7 February 1995. Earlier university teaching in southern Brittany developed progressively from the 1960s, but UBS itself dates from 1995. The university reports nearly 10,000 students and operates in three cities: Lorient, Vannes, and Pontivy. It is therefore better understood as a regional, multi-campus institution than as a university centered on one self-contained campus. The academic organization comprises three faculties, two IUTs, the ENSIBS engineering school, and IAE Bretagne Sud. Law and political science are based in Vannes; letters, languages, humanities, and social sciences are in Lorient; and science and engineering teaching is split between Lorient and Vannes. For 2026 entry, applicants seeking the first year of a licence or BUT use Parcoursup. The published 2026 schedule placed the main admission phase from 2 June to 10 July and the supplementary phase from 11 June to 10 September. These dates apply to the 2026 campaign and should not be reused for a later intake. Applicants to the first year of a master use the national Mon Master platform. For 2026, programs became visible on 2 February and applications ran from 17 February through 16 March. Applications to later years or other programs outside first-year licence, BUT, and master generally use UBS’s e-candidature platform, where candidates select a course and upload the requested supporting documents. Individual programs can set their own assessment criteria and campaign dates. International procedures depend on residence, nationality, prior diploma, and intended year of entry. Student Life & Environment

Student life is distributed among Lorient, Vannes, and the smaller Pontivy site. UBS directs students to a practical campus-life service covering accommodation, health, mobility, sport, culture, and associations. Costs & Career Outcomes

For 2026–2027, UBS lists annual national-degree registration charges of €178 for DAEU, BUT, licence, and licence professionnelle study; €255 for a master; €630 for an engineering diploma; and €398 for a doctorate. Students who are liable must also pay the €105 Contribution de vie étudiante et de campus. Scholarship holders and some other categories may qualify for exemptions under the applicable rules. The official fee page separately lists differentiated charges for students from outside the European Union: €2,902 for first-cycle licence and BUT study and €3,950 for second-cycle master and engineering study. Candidates should confirm their personal fee status with UBS, since nationality, residence, program, scholarship, or exemption arrangements can affect the amount due. Under alternance, training and registration costs are generally covered by the host employer or its funding organization; CVEC treatment differs between apprenticeship and professionalization contracts.
