About UI

Universitas Indonesia (UI) traces its roots to 1848 and a school for training Javanese doctors. It developed through Dutch-era colleges of medicine and law into the national university after independence. Its main campus is a 320-hectare green site in Depok, West Java, just south of Jakarta, with a second campus at Salemba in Jakarta. UI reports 47,107 students, 65 research centres and more than 250 active international partners.

UI has 14 faculties, from Medicine, Dentistry, Public Health, Nursing and Pharmacy to Engineering, Computer Science, Economics and Business, Law, Psychology, Humanities, Social and Political Sciences and Administrative Sciences, plus a Vocational Education School. For international students, the main route is the International Undergraduate Program (IUP), known in Indonesian as Kelas Khusus Internasional (KKI). It is taught entirely in English and offered as a Single Degree with at least one semester abroad, a Double or Joint Degree with partner universities, or a Fast Track to a master's.

Many programmes are internationally accredited, by AACSB for economics and business, the Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education for engineering and computing, and the Royal Society of Chemistry for chemistry. UI suits students who want a big, prestigious Indonesian university at a moderate price, and the chance to finish a degree at partners such as Melbourne, Queensland or Monash.

Admissions

2027/2028 academic year (international undergraduate, KKI/IUP)

Selectivity

UI does not publish an overall acceptance rate. For the English-taught KKI programmes in 2025, it reported 2,178 Talent Scouting applicants with 678 admitted, and 1,604 SIMAK KKI applicants with 479 admitted (about 31% combined). Selectivity varied widely: for example, Medicine (Double Degree) admitted 80 of 371 Talent Scouting applicants, and Law (Single Degree) admitted 36 of 243. International applicants are selected by desk evaluation of their documents rather than a written test.

Testing No written test for international applicants: selection is by desk evaluation of academic records and profile, and shortlisted Global Talent applicants have a faculty interview. The SAT is strongly recommended to support a KKI application. Medicine and Dentistry applicants may also face the MMPI assessment and a Multiple Mini Interview.
Grades Global Talent KKI applicants must rank in the top 40% of their class, as certified by their school, and have graduated within the last three years.

Typical entry requirements

High school diploma (international applicants)Graduated from 2022 onward (booklet) or within three years (Global Talent); certificate, transcript, health certificate and passport; strong academic record and achievements assessed by desk evaluation
Cambridge or IB curriculumA school letter confirming English as the language of instruction can replace an English test certificate
Medicine and Dentistry (KKI)No total or partial colour-vision deficiency; physically and mentally fit; shortlisted applicants take the MMPI and a Multiple Mini Interview
English languageIELTS 5.5 · TOEFL iBT 61 UI-wide minimums for international undergraduates are TOEFL ITP 500, TOEFL iBT 61, IELTS 5.5, or Cambridge FCE/CAE 154, but faculties may set higher scores for KKI programmes. Certificates must be dated March 2024 or later. Applicants from English-medium schools can submit a school letter instead.

Deadlines

  1. Global Talent S1 KKI (2026/2027 intake) Non-binding Passed
    16 July 2026

Registration window 3–16 July 2026; results by 25 July 2026. Previous cycle, for reference.

Dates for the 2027/2028 undergraduate intake had not been published by 29 September 2026; the international admission portal was then open only for postgraduate applications. Check admission.ui.ac.id and simak.ui.ac.id/jadwal-seleksi from early 2027.

How to apply

International applicants create an account at admission.ui.ac.id, choose a programme, complete the online form and upload a photo and documents (passport, school certificate and transcript, health certificate, English certificate or English-medium letter, and a motivation statement for KKI). They pay the USD 150 application fee by bank transfer and upload the receipt, wait for the selection result, then register if accepted. Indonesian citizens apply for KKI through enrollment.ui.ac.id via Talent Scouting or the SIMAK UI written test.

What admissions looks for

  • Strong academic performance, shown in your school transcripts and report-card grades.
  • Outstanding achievements in academics, science and technology, sports, arts, leadership or entrepreneurship (for Global Talent KKI).
  • English proficiency at or above the faculty's minimum for English-taught KKI programmes.
  • For Medicine and Dentistry, fitness to practise, including no colour-vision deficiency, and performance in the MMPI and Multiple Mini Interview.

Tips for applying to UI

  1. 1 Take the SAT: UI says it is strongly recommended for KKI applicants.
  2. 2 Check the faculty-specific English score for your programme; the UI-wide minimum (IELTS 5.5) is lower than many KKI programmes require.
  3. 3 Decide early between Single Degree, Double/Joint Degree and Fast Track, because partner universities and costs differ by scheme.
  4. 4 Budget for the one-time Institution Development Fee (IPI) on top of semester tuition: for Medicine it is Rp 148.5 million.
  5. 5 If you are from an English-medium, Cambridge or IB school, ask for an English-medium letter instead of taking a test.
