About UNAIR
Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) in Surabaya is one of Indonesia's oldest universities. Its roots go back to the Nederlandsche Indische Artsen School, a medical school founded in Surabaya in 1913 that became today's Faculty of Medicine, and it was officially founded as a university by President Soekarno in 1954. It is named after Airlangga, an 11th-century king of East Java.
UNAIR has 173 study programmes across 14 faculties and two postgraduate schools, spread over three city-centre campuses in Surabaya (Campus A, B and C) and an outpost in Banyuwangi. It is especially strong in the health sciences, running its own university hospital, dental hospital and veterinary hospital, and in law and economics. For international students, the key route is the International Undergraduate Programme (IUP): ten English-taught bachelor's programmes in medicine, dental medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, psychology, law, accounting, management, Islamic economics and development economics, several with dual or double degree options with overseas partners.
IUP places are small, from 5 to 80 per programme in 2026/27, and selection includes a written academic potential test and an online interview. UNAIR suits students who want an English-taught professional degree, particularly medicine or dentistry, at far lower fees than in Western countries, and who want to live in Indonesia's second-largest city.
