About UniVR
The University of Verona grew out of a free Faculty of Economics and Commerce founded by the city in 1959, which became a branch of the University of Padua in 1963 and gained full autonomy in 1982. Today it is a mid-to-large public university with 30,981 students in 2025/26, organised into 13 departments, from Biotechnology, Computer Science and Engineering for Innovative Medicine to Economics, Management, Law, Human Sciences and Foreign Languages, plus a School of Medicine and Surgery.
Teaching is split between two main poles: Veronetta, home to the humanities, economics and law, including the restored Santa Marta barracks, and Borgo Roma, where medicine and the sciences sit next to the hospital. There are also sites in Vicenza, Legnago, Bolzano, Trento and Rovereto. The university offers over 100 degree programmes; the 13 programmes listed as taught in English are all master's degrees, several of them with double degrees in Germany, France and Spain.
Verona suits students who are comfortable studying in Italian at bachelor's level and want a compact, well-connected city with strong graduate employment: citing AlmaLaurea data, the university reports that 90.7% of its graduates are employed one year after graduation, above the national average. International students with a study visa can opt for a flat annual contribution of 500 or 1,000 euros instead of an income assessment.
Why students choose UniVR
International students with a study visa or permit can pay a flat contribution of 500 euros (low and lower-middle income countries) or 1,000 euros (upper-middle income countries), plus regional tax and stamp duty.
AlmaLaurea data cited by the university show 90.7% of its graduates in work one year after graduating, above the national average.
Thirteen master's programmes are listed as taught in English, including Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Medical Bioinformatics and an interuniversity Viticulture, Enology and Wine Marketing degree with Hochschule Geisenheim.
Verona is a UNESCO World Heritage city close to Lake Garda, with direct rail links to Venice, Milan, Bologna and Florence.

How to apply
EU citizens and non-EU citizens living in the EU apply through the university's enrolment pages (www.univr.it/iscrizioni) and any admission test. Non-EU citizens living outside the EU must, before leaving for Italy, pre-enrol on Universitaly for one programme at one university; this single procedure also starts the study visa request. They then pass the CISIA ITA-L2 Italian test (or show a B2 certificate), complete enrolment and pay the first instalment by 15 October.
What admissions looks for
- At least 12 years of schooling and a qualification that gives access to university.
- Italian at the level needed to follow an Italian-taught degree, shown by the CISIA ITA-L2 test or a B2 certificate.
- For limited-entry programmes, a place in the admission test ranking.
- For English-taught master's degrees, the subject background and English level set by each programme.
Tips for applying to UniVR
- 1 Pick carefully: on Universitaly you can indicate only one programme at one university.
- 2 Book the CISIA ITA-L2 early; you need 55/72, and a recognised B2 certificate exempts you.
- 3 If your country is low, lower-middle or upper-middle income on the World Bank list, file the flat-rate request by mid-November to cap your contribution at 500 or 1,000 euros.
- 4 If you plan an English-taught master's later, watch for the international master's call, which closed on 31 March in 2026 and also awards scholarships.
