Established by legislation in 1963, the University of Guyana is a statutory teaching and examining body with authority to confer degrees and other academic distinctions. It began teaching in Georgetown in October 1963 and later moved to Turkeyen. The university stated that second-phase applicants should receive an application-status response by 28 August and that orientation and classes would begin around late August and early September. Prospective applicants for a later intake should wait for a new official announcement rather than reuse these expired dates. General degree entry can be met through several combinations of GCE Advanced Level and CSEC, IGCSE or GCE Ordinary Level subjects. The university’s online fee schedule, viewed on 20 August 2026, lists a standard annual charge of GYD 228,448 for Guyanese students in undergraduate certificate, diploma, associate-degree and bachelor’s programmes, and USD 5,711 for foreign students in those categories. It lists master’s charges ranging from GYD 428,340 to GYD 1,650,000 for Guyanese students and USD 5,711 to USD 11,422 for foreign students, plus a standard doctorate figure of GYD 713,900 or USD 7,139. Numerous programmes have exception rates, and the page adds a mandatory annual facilities fee of GYD 50,000 or USD 250. These figures require confirmation before accepting an offer. The fee page is not labelled with an academic year, says fees are subject to change and contains older explanatory figures that do not fully agree with its headline tables. Students should request a programme-specific 2026/2027 invoice and clarify whether fees are annual, credit-based or subject to additional laboratory, examination, residence or professional costs. The university explains that credit charges depend on the programme and year rather than a single institution-wide rate.
