Its deeper institutional history runs through the Kenya Polytechnic University College, established as a constituent college of the University of Nairobi in 2007, and earlier technical-education institutions in Nairobi. The university says that result slips from examinations taken more than two years earlier are not accepted; applicants with older results should prepare the corresponding certificate. Applied learning is part of the university’s academic approach. Student Life & Environment

Student support is coordinated through the Dean of Students. The official support page identifies counselling, student governance, accommodation and catering, scholarships and bursaries, clubs, sports, chaplaincy, disability support and general welfare among the available services. The Student Association of the Technical University of Kenya represents students through an elected council and includes faculty, hostel, international-student and disability representation. University-managed accommodation is limited. TU-K states that it currently accommodates 424 students across men’s and women’s hostels. The men’s hostel is in South B, while the women’s hostel is in the Upper Hill/Community area. Because capacity does not cover the whole student body, the university also provides information about vetted private hostels. Housing is distributed beyond the main academic site. TU-K identifies its men’s hostel in South B, near the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication and South B shopping centre, with access from the South B/Mariakani and Mombasa Road directions. The women’s hostel is in the Upper Hill/Community area near the Milimani Commercial Courts and public transport at the Community bus terminus. Students placed in private hostels may have different travel times and transport needs. Applicants should therefore evaluate the academic-site and accommodation locations together. TU-K recommends visiting private hostels before contracting with their operators, an especially important step for students unfamiliar with Nairobi.

TU-K does not present one universal tuition figure for every student. Costs vary by programme, qualification, entry route, study mode and semester. Individual listings on the 2026 portal can show an approximate projected schedule; one Bachelor of Technology listing, for example, separates daytime or integrated study from part-time or evening study and explicitly excludes industrial attachment. The portal also warns that fees may change following University Council approval.
