Student Life & Environment

Student life is centered on the Akrotiri campus, where the library, information-technology services, residence halls, restaurant, cafeterias, sports facilities, classrooms, laboratories, and student groups are located. Cultural and political associations provide organized activities outside formal coursework. Students also receive a university identity card after matriculation, which supports reduced fares on eligible public transportation and access to other student concessions. On-campus accommodation exists but is limited and allocated according to financial and social criteria. Because future capacity depends on completion, applicants should not assume those additional beds will be available for a particular intake. Location & Surroundings

The main university campus is on the Akrotiri peninsula near Kounoupidiana, northeast of central Chania on the Greek island of Crete. Official university pages give slightly different estimates of the distance from Chania, ranging from approximately 5.5 to 7 kilometres, so students should use the campus map and their specific school location when planning travel. Academic buildings, laboratories, school offices, the library, residences, dining facilities, and most student services are concentrated there. The campus is connected with Chania by local buses, and TUC arranges a student-transport agreement with the local operator. Students can also travel by taxi. Chania International Airport and the port of Souda are both within the broader area, providing air and ferry connections, although routes and journey times should be checked directly before travel. TUC also retains historic properties in Chania, including buildings associated with university administration and other functions. The setting therefore combines a suburban campus environment with access to Chania’s urban services and cultural life. Students living in the city should account for a regular campus commute, while those near Kounoupidiana may have easier access to classes but be farther from the city center.

Costs & Career Outcomes

The university does not publish a single current price that can safely represent every student. Costs depend on study level, program, nationality or legal category, housing eligibility, and personal living arrangements. Undergraduate applicants should obtain the applicable 2026–27 fee position from the Ministry or TUC rather than relying on old figures shown on some university pages. Graduate fees are program-specific: official 2026–27 calls demonstrate that different international MSc programs charge different amounts and may distinguish between applicant groups. The relevant program call should therefore be treated as authoritative. University housing can reduce living costs for eligible students, but places are limited and assigned using financial and social criteria. The current residence page reports 304 available places and a further complex under construction; unfinished capacity should not be included in a housing plan. Students without a place must budget for private accommodation and commuting.
