About Taylor's

Taylor's University traces its roots to Taylor's College, opened in Kuala Lumpur in 1969 so Malaysian students could take Australian pre-university qualifications at home. It became a university college in 2006 and gained full university status in September 2010, the year it moved into its purpose-built Lakeside Campus in Subang Jaya, a 27-acre site around a 5.5-acre artificial lake. It is part of Taylor's Education Group, and Taylor's College's pre-university programmes now share the same campus.

Taylor's is a private, teaching-focused university organised into schools covering business, computing, engineering, medicine, pharmacy, biosciences, architecture, design, law, media, education, liberal arts, and hospitality, tourism and culinary arts. Hospitality is its standout international strength, ranked in the world's top 30 by QS. Many degrees are dual awards with partner universities: the Bachelor of Computer Science, for example, is awarded jointly with the University of the West of England, and computing students can finish their degree at partner universities in Australia or the UK.

Admission is by published minimum entry requirements rather than a competitive exam, with three undergraduate intakes a year (February, April and September). Taylor's suits students who want an industry-connected, English-taught degree in a modern campus setting near Kuala Lumpur, and who are comfortable with private-university fees.

How to apply

Choose a programme and check its entry requirements with a Taylor's education counsellor, then apply online through Taylor's Online Programme Application System (TOPAS). Upload a photo, passport or ID, and certified transcripts and certificates from O-level (or equivalent) onwards, with official English translations where needed, and pay the enrolment fee through Taylor's Pay. Once documents and payment are complete, Taylor's issues a Letter of Acceptance, and international students then apply for a student pass through EMGS.

What admissions looks for

  • Meeting the programme's minimum entry qualification, such as A-level DD or IB 24 points for Computer Science.
  • Required subject credits at SPM/O-level, especially Additional Mathematics for computing programmes.
  • Adequate English, typically IELTS 5.5 for international students, or prior study in English.
  • For scholarships, strong grades plus achievements and leadership in clubs, competitions and events, assessed through an online psychometric test and interview.

Tips for applying to Taylor's

  1. 1 Check whether you need Reinforcement Mathematics: computing applicants without Additional Mathematics may have to take it, adding credits to the degree.
  2. 2 Read the international (USD) fee schedule, not the local (MYR) one: international students pay extra charges and 6% service tax on most fees.
  3. 3 If you want to finish abroad, ask about articulation to partner universities in Australia or the UK when you choose your programme.
  4. 4 Merit scholarships have strict intake deadlines and need a Letter of Offer at the point of application, so apply for admission early.
