About UoS

The University of Sharjah (UoS) was founded in 1997 and sits in Sharjah's University City, a planned education district on the edge of the city. It is a large, comprehensive university, with 13 colleges ranging from Sharia and Islamic Studies, Law and Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences to Engineering, Computing and Informatics, Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and 66 bachelor's programmes listed for Fall and Spring entry.

Teaching language depends on the programme. Business, Engineering, Computing, Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Sciences and Public Policy are taught entirely in English, while Sharia, Arabic, history and several communication programmes are taught in Arabic, and French Language and Literature in French. Law and communication offer both Arabic and English tracks. The university's medical and health sciences campus hosts its College of Medicine and the Sharjah Surgical Institute, and research is organised in three research institutes covering humanities and social sciences, medical and health sciences, and sciences and engineering.

Admission is competitive and based on high school averages, with minimums from 70% for most colleges to 95% for Medicine, and priority for UAE citizens and top-scoring students. UoS suits students who want an English- or Arabic-taught professional degree in the UAE, with on-campus housing and a wide choice of majors.

Applicants are told their status within 3 to 7 working days; those nominated reserve a seat with AED 12,000 (credited to tuition; AED 3,000 is non-refundable if they withdraw) and then submit attested high school certificates, English test results and a medical fitness form.

What admissions looks for

  • A final high school average at or above your college's minimum, with higher grades improving your competitive ranking.
  • Strong grades in required subjects, such as mathematics and sciences for Medicine, Pharmacy and Engineering.
  • English proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent) for English-taught programmes.
  • Complete, properly attested documents and medical fitness, including immunisation evidence where your major requires it.

Tips for applying to UoS

  1. 1 Get your foreign certificates attested in the right order early: education authority, foreign ministry, UAE embassy, then the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  2. 2 Medicine and Dental Medicine admit only in Fall and only students who finished school within the last year, with no conditional admission.
  3. 3 Budget for the AED 12,000 seat reservation soon after you are nominated; it counts toward tuition.
  4. 4 Take IELTS before applying: a 5.5 exempts you from remedial English courses and speeds up your start.
