About SIMATS

Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS) started as Saveetha Dental College in 1988 and became a deemed-to-be university in 2005. It is private, accredited 'A++' by NAAC and recognised by the UGC, and today groups 14 institutions with about 17,000 students and 1,800 faculty on a 245-acre campus at Thandalam, on the western edge of Chennai, plus a campus at Poonamallee.

Health sciences dominate. Saveetha Medical College and Hospitals and Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals are its flagships, alongside colleges and schools for nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, allied health sciences, engineering, law, management, architecture, liberal arts and sciences, hospitality, design and physical education. The university says its hospitals see more than 8,000 patients a day, which gives clinical students a heavy caseload.

SIMATS reports a 1:9 faculty-student ratio, more than 240 foreign faculty, and that 60% of its students come from outside Tamil Nadu. Fees vary enormously by programme, from under INR 1 lakh a year for some science and sports degrees to INR 27 lakh a year for MBBS. It suits students set on a clinical or health-science career who want a large, fully residential campus.
