About Satbayev University (KazNRTU)

Satbayev University (officially the Kazakh National Research Technical University named after K.I. Satbayev, KazNRTU) began its first academic year on 19 September 1934 as the Kazakh Mining and Metallurgical Institute in Alma-Ata. It became the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute in 1960 and the Kazakh National Technical University in 1994, was named after the geologist Kanysh Satbayev in 1999, and received national research university status in 2014. It describes itself as the oldest technical university in Kazakhstan, best known for mining and the oil business.

The university is organised into institutes, including the Geology and Oil-Gas Business Institute, the Mining and Metallurgical Institute, the Institute of Automation and Information Technologies, the Institute of Energy and Mechanical Engineering, the Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering, the School of Transport Engineering and Logistics, the Institute for Project Management and an Academy of Digital Technologies and Artificial Intelligence. It works with Kazakhstan's largest industrial companies and runs double-degree programmes with universities such as City University of Hong Kong, Pennsylvania State University and Sungkyunkwan University.
