About Wrocław Tech

Wrocław University of Science and Technology (Wrocław Tech, Politechnika Wrocławska) was established in 1945, largely through academics from the former Technical University of Lviv and the Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv, who took over the buildings of the former German Technische Hochschule. It says it is one of the largest technical universities in Poland and that it develops in close cooperation with companies in Lower Silesia.

The university has about 22,000 students, including 1,500 foreign students from 90 countries, 850 doctoral students, 14 faculties, three branches in Jelenia Góra, Legnica and Wałbrzych, and some 2,500 academic teachers. It lists 1,100 laboratories in 117 buildings, and it belongs to the Unite! alliance of technical universities.

For international applicants the entry route is unusually structured. Bachelor's candidates choose up to six programmes in the IRK online system, pay an application fee and must sit a mandatory online entrance exam in mathematics with elements of logic. Ranking depends on an admission index calculated from school certificate grades. For non-EU students, English-taught programmes are fee-paying, and the fee varies by field.

The university suits students who want an engineering or computer-science degree taught in English at a moderate price in a Polish city, and who are comfortable with a documentation-heavy application.

Selectivity

Wrocław Tech does not publish an overall acceptance rate. Admission to each programme is decided by position in a ranking based on an admission index, and every foreign bachelor's candidate must also pass a mandatory online mathematics exam.

Testing Mandatory online entrance exam in mathematics with elements of logic for all foreign bachelor's candidates; a drawing exam is mandatory for Architecture; voluntary exams in mathematics, physics and biology for candidates with a diploma from outside Poland can raise the index.
Grades The admission index is Mathematics + additional subjects + 0.1 x foreign language + 0.1 x Polish language, with school grades converted to Polish Matura points using NARIC UK scales.

What admissions looks for

  • A strong result in mathematics: the index takes the best of the basic, advanced or weighted advanced Matura-equivalent points.
  • An additional subject relevant to the field: physics for all five English-taught bachelor's degrees, with computer science or mathematics also counting for Electronic and Computer Engineering.
  • A pass on the mandatory online maths exam.
  • Proven English at B2.

Tips for applying to Wrocław Tech

  1. 1 Take the voluntary exams in mathematics, physics or biology if your diploma is from outside Poland; they can improve your index.
  2. 2 Set your first-choice programme as priority 1 when you register more than one application.
  3. 3 Check if a NAWA recognition statement is needed for your certificate: the university states it has been required since 1 July 2025.
