About PSU
Prince of Songkla University (PSU) was established in 1967 as the first university in southern Thailand and is named after Prince Mahidol Adulyadej, Prince of Songkla. It became an autonomous university under state supervision in 2016. PSU has five campuses: Hat Yai, the main campus, plus Pattani, Phuket, Surat Thani and Trang. Its stated corporate culture is "Our Soul is for the Benefit of Mankind".
The Hat Yai campus holds most of the professional and science faculties, including Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering, Science, Natural Resources, Veterinary Science and the International College. Pattani is home to education, humanities and the College of Islamic Studies. Phuket focuses on hospitality and tourism, international studies and computing. The admissions office lists 140 bachelor's programmes and 166 graduate programmes.
Most teaching is in Thai, and Thai students enter through the national TCAS system. International students usually join one of PSU's English-taught programmes, such as hospitality, international business and digital engineering in Phuket, or creative media, management and innovation engineering in Hat Yai. PSU suits students who want a large, established Thai university outside Bangkok, with a strong regional role in medicine, agriculture and tourism.

Selectivity
PSU does not publish an overall acceptance rate. Thai applicants are selected through TCAS rounds (portfolio, quota, central admission and direct admission). International programmes use interviews and set seat limits per programme, for example 10 to 30 places for foreign applicants in each Phuket programme.

How to apply
Foreign applicants to Phuket's international programmes apply online at admissions.phuket.psu.ac.th/apply, choosing one programme per application. Upload one merged PDF with a photo, certified school diploma and transcript (or GED, IB, A Level or Cambridge certificate), passport and English test result, all in English or with English translation. There is no application fee. Shortlisted applicants are interviewed on personality, attitude to the programme, general knowledge, problem-solving and language; you need at least 50% in each criterion and 60 of 100 points overall. Hat Yai international programmes, such as those at the PSU International College, run their own admissions pages and TCAS rounds.
What admissions looks for
- Completed or nearly completed secondary education from an accredited school, or an equivalent qualification.
- Enough English for an English-taught programme, shown by a test score or at interview.
- Interview performance on personality, attitude to the programme, general knowledge, problem-solving and language skills.
- For creative programmes such as Creative Media and Digital Technologies, a portfolio showing creative work.
Tips for applying to PSU
- 1 Apply early in the October to June window: seats for foreign applicants are capped per programme, often at 10.
- 2 Merge all documents into one PDF and have non-English documents translated before uploading.
- 3 Prepare for the interview: it is scored out of 100 and you need at least half marks in every criterion.
- 4 Budget for paying fees within 14 days of your interview, because PSU Phuket does not refund tuition or entrance fees.

PSU International College offers scholarships covering all or part of tuition, including an 8,000 baht first-semester award for up to 25 students admitted in TCAS round 1. The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism and the central student affairs office list further scholarships. PSU does not publish a university-wide need-based aid policy for international undergraduates.

Student life
Hat Yai, the main campus, is a large green campus with a reservoir, a jogging track and high-rise student dormitories, as well as the Hall of History and the Natural History Museum. Most students are Thai. The Phuket campus draws the most students from Europe and North America through its English-taught and study-abroad programmes. The Pattani campus is home to the College of Islamic Studies. Some international programmes add double degrees abroad, internships and cooperative education placements.
