Université Paris Nanterre is an independent public teaching and research institution in the French higher-education system. The university traces its origins to the Faculty of Letters and Humanities of Nanterre, officially opened on 2 November 1964 as an extension of the University of Paris. Student life is distributed across three sites, with the largest concentration of facilities and activities on the main Nanterre campus. The university reports more than 110 student associations, over 50 sports activities, a Maison de l’Étudiant.e and a campus theatre. For initial enrolment in 2026–2027, the university publishes registration fees of €178 for Licence and professional Licence programs, €255 for Master programs and €398 for doctoral study.
