Student Life & Environment

Student life is distributed across the north and downtown Oshawa locations. University services include academic learning support, accessibility services, mental-health support, career advising, student engagement and equity programming, and Indigenous education and cultural services. At the north campus, several of these services are concentrated in Shawenjigewining Hall; downtown students can access services at Charles Hall and the Baagwating Indigenous Student Centre. Students can participate in clubs, cultural and community events, volunteering, recreation and varsity athletics. The Ridgebacks athletics program includes sports such as basketball, badminton, curling, golf, hockey, rowing and soccer, although team offerings and participation routes should be checked for the relevant year. Co-curricular and volunteer experiences may also be documented through the university’s Student Experience Record. Residence is available to Ontario Tech students through the existing campus housing arrangement, but capacity, room styles, meal-plan conditions and rates should be checked directly before committing. For fall 2026, the university stated that eligible residence applications received by June 1 would receive a guaranteed space. A new residence called The Ridge is planned to begin opening in fall 2027, so it should not be treated as a housing option for students entering in 2026. Location & Surroundings

Ontario Tech is located in Oshawa, within Durham Region east of Toronto. Its principal address is 2000 Simcoe Street North, where the north Oshawa campus combines academic buildings, laboratories, a library, student services and recreation facilities. The site is shared more broadly with Durham College, though the two institutions remain separate. Applicants should account for this shared-campus context when interpreting residence, food-service or facility information. The university also maintains downtown Oshawa locations. Student Services identifies Charles Hall and the Baagwating Indigenous Student Centre among its downtown facilities. Program location matters because students based downtown may have a different daily commute and neighbourhood experience from those studying primarily in north Oshawa. Oshawa is part of the eastern Greater Toronto Area and is connected to the wider region by road and public transit. Travel time to campus depends materially on the starting point and class time, so commuters should verify current Durham Region Transit, GO Transit and campus parking information. Students considering housing should compare north-campus residence, rentals near Simcoe Street and downtown options against their actual timetable.

Costs & Career Outcomes

Tuition varies substantially by residency status, program and year of study. For 2026–2027, annual domestic undergraduate tuition based on ten courses ranged from about CAD 6,102 for several arts, science, health and education credentials to CAD 11,443 for first-year Engineering and Technology programs. Listed first-year amounts included CAD 10,358 for Commerce, CAD 9,212 for Information Technology and CAD 8,467 for Computer Science. These figures are tuition only and do not represent a complete cost of attendance. For international undergraduates in 2026–2027, listed annual tuition based on ten courses ranged from CAD 34,148 for several arts, science, health and education programs to CAD 46,561 for Engineering, Engineering and Management, and Technology. Computer Science was listed at CAD 37,831, Commerce at CAD 37,877 and Information Technology at CAD 42,143. Ancillary fees are additional; the university advises undergraduates to expect roughly CAD 2,500 to CAD 3,500 on average, varying by program and status. Housing, meals, books, transport, insurance and personal expenses must also be budgeted separately. Published fees remain subject to change, and the student account is the controlling source after registration. Career preparation is integrated differently across programs. Selected disciplines offer paid co-op or internship terms, while others use clinical placements, practica, capstones, research projects or field experience.
