Student Life & Environment

Student life combines organized societies and sports with practical support for a largely urban, commuter population. The Department of Students’ Affairs coordinates co-curricular events with society advisers and directs students to membership procedures during the academic year. The Sports Section organizes activities, while the university’s facilities page identifies spaces for athletics, badminton, cricket, football, hockey, table tennis, basketball and physical fitness. Scholarship support is available through government programmes and private donors, generally on merit or need-cum-merit terms after a call for applications. These opportunities should not be treated as automatic funding; students must follow the individual announcement and submit the required evidence through the stated university process. Residential capacity is limited. Muhammad Bin Qasim Hostel, adjacent to the Main Campus, principally serves students from outside Karachi, with allocation decided through the university process. Location & Surroundings

The university’s principal address is on University Road in Karachi, with the Main Campus serving as the central administrative and academic site. NED also identifies City and LEJ campuses in Karachi. The LEJ Campus houses biomedical-engineering activity, while departmental libraries and other services are distributed across the campus network. Applicants should confirm where their programme is taught because facilities, commuting arrangements and daily schedules can differ by site. Karachi provides access to a large concentration of engineering firms, manufacturers, utilities, technology businesses and other employers. NED’s Directorate of Industrial Liaison uses this setting to arrange industrial visits, internships, recruitment activity and industry involvement in student projects. This is an institutional service rather than a guarantee that every student will receive a placement. The Thar Institute of Engineering, Sciences & Technology is a separate teaching location associated with NED and should not be confused with the Karachi campuses. The 2026 undergraduate schedule included TIEST-specific programmes and admission activity. Students considering those places should evaluate the location, accommodation and travel implications independently from a Karachi-campus option. Within Karachi, university shuttle services operate on specified routes, but routes and charges can change and should be checked against the latest notice.

Costs & Career Outcomes

NED does not present a single tuition figure that safely represents every student. Charges depend on degree level, programme and admission category, and regular tuition is separate from the additional amount charged for a self-finance seat. The official 2026 undergraduate FAQ listed a one-time self-finance charge of PKR 890,000 plus 3% tax, and PKR 1,100,000 plus 3% tax for sponsored self-finance and foreign-student categories.
