Student Life & Environment

Student life is distributed across a main campus and several smaller sites, so the experience depends partly on the program. At Route de Mende, students have access to the Maison des Étudiants, which supports associations, events, and student-led projects. The university reported nearly 30 active cultural, artistic, social, representative, and discipline-based associations in 2026, with 13 housed at the Maison des Étudiants. Its Student Life Service assists groups with administration, event logistics, communication, and funding applications. Cultural facilities include the Théâtre La Vignette, the Musée des Moulages, a university cultural center, and a symphony orchestra. ATRIUM combines library, study, welcome, information, meeting, and creative spaces. University sports provision allows students to take part in physical activities during the academic year, although availability and enrollment conditions should be checked directly. Location & Surroundings

The principal Paul-Valéry campus is on Route de Mende in northern Montpellier. It is a wooded, 10.5-hectare site recognized for its twentieth-century architecture. Most classes take place there, and the closest tram stop is Saint-Éloi on line 1; several bus services also connect the surrounding area. The university reports 573 bicycle-parking spaces on the main campus. The institution is not confined to one location. Saint-Charles, in central Montpellier, hosts research and associated Master and doctoral teaching. Boutonnet accommodates some teaching and inter-university services, while Saint-Louis hosts selected specialist courses. The Centre Du-Guesclin in Béziers is a branch site, accounting for about 4% of the university’s 2025–2026 students. For 2026–2027, the university lists national registration fees of €178 for a Licence and €255 for a Master. Distance education adds €120. Certain non-EU students are subject to differentiated fees of €2,902 for a Licence and €3,950 for a Master. The university’s 2026 guidance explains that exemption treatment changed under a May 2026 decree and depends on the student’s status and continuity of enrollment; international applicants should obtain an individual determination rather than assuming that either the national or differentiated rate applies. The mandatory CVEC is separate from tuition, but the university page does not state its 2026–2027 amount. The university estimates an international student’s average Montpellier budget at about €950 per month.
