About Leeds Beckett

Leeds Beckett University describes itself as a modern, professional-based university. Its own history timeline starts with the Leeds Mechanics Institute in 1824 and runs through the Leeds Institute of Science and Art and Literature (1897), Leeds Law School (1924), Leeds College of Commerce (1926), Leeds College of Art (1927) and Carnegie College of Physical Training (1933), a 1968 merger at Beckett Park, Leeds Polytechnic in 1970, Leeds Metropolitan University in 1992 and its current name in 2014.

Its facilities are grouped into two main campus areas, the City Campus and the Headingley Campus, and courses are taught in schools including Leeds Business School, Leeds Law School, Leeds School of Arts, the School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computing, the School of Health, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Carnegie School of Education and the Carnegie School of Sport. The Carnegie School of Sport building opened in 2020 and the Leeds School of Arts building in 2021.

Entry requirements are published as UCAS tariff points per course, and for 2027 start they range from 112 points for Business and Management to 128 for Architecture, which also needs a portfolio. Leeds Beckett suits applicants who want a practical degree in a big city, a vocational route through architecture, law, psychology, sport or business, and an optional placement year.
