Student Life & Environment

Student life is organized around a specialist creative community rather than a large comprehensive-university campus. Leeds Arts Union runs activities, campaigns, fundraising, events, a student magazine, societies, communities, and sports or fitness opportunities. Students elect Union officers and course representatives, providing formal channels for contributing feedback. The Union also supports students who want to establish a new society, which can be useful where a niche creative or personal interest is not already represented. The University’s student-support structure includes Student Advice and Wellbeing and Academic Support. Published services cover personal wellbeing as well as support for learning differences, disabilities, and other conditions affecting study. Applicants who may need adjustments or specialist assistance should contact the relevant team before enrolling to establish what can be arranged for their course and facilities. For 2026 entry, the University works with Carr Mills and The Leather Works rather than operating the advertised accommodation directly. Both are described as roughly a 15- to 20-minute walk from Blenheim Walk, and bookings facilitated by the University receive preferential rates. A first-year accommodation place was guaranteed to students who firmly accepted an offer and completed the process by 15 May 2026, although neither room type nor location was guaranteed. That deadline has passed as of 20 August 2026, so late applicants should ask about remaining availability rather than assume the guarantee still applies.

Location & Surroundings

Leeds Arts University’s higher-education base is at Blenheim Walk, near the University of Leeds and north of the central shopping and cultural district. The University estimates a 23-minute walk from Leeds railway station and a 28-minute walk from the main bus station. Its Vernon Street building, used for further-education courses rather than undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, sits behind Leeds City Museum near Millennium Square and is closer to both transport hubs. The location places students within a major regional city rather than on an enclosed residential campus. That gives access to galleries, museums, venues, retail, nightlife, and other universities, while also requiring students to manage normal city travel and living costs. The University highlights destinations such as Leeds City Museum, Leeds Industrial Museum, the Royal Armouries, and galleries in and around Leeds, as well as the Yorkshire Sculpture Park farther afield. Prospective students should distinguish between the two teaching sites when visiting: bachelor’s and master’s courses are based at Blenheim Walk, while Foundation Diploma and Extended Diploma courses are taught at Vernon Street. Accommodation promoted through the University is within walking distance of Blenheim Walk, but exact routes, contract terms, and travel costs depend on the property selected.

Costs & Career Outcomes

For 2026/27, the published annual home fee for standard BA, BMus, and BSc honours study is £9,790 in each of the three academic years. An optional placement year costs 20% of the annual tuition fee. Home entrants who already hold a first degree are charged £10,540. The University estimates additional creative-material expenditure at £50–£300 in each of the first two years and £50–£500 in year three; optional trips can cost extra. The published 2026/27 MA fee is £10,200 full-time or £5,100 part-time. Eligible recent home alumni receive reduced MA fees. International charges should be confirmed directly for the intended course and award. The University’s September 2026 US Federal Aid cost-of-attendance schedule lists first-year undergraduate tuition of £17,670, but that schedule is designed for eligible US borrowers and should not be generalized to every international or postgraduate applicant without confirmation. Housing, food, travel, equipment, visa, and immigration-health costs are separate. For eligible home undergraduates entering in 2026/27, published support includes an income-assessed Creative Practice Support Bursary and targeted bursaries for qualifying care leavers and estranged students. Career preparation emphasizes creative employment and self-employment. The Careers, Employability and Enterprise team offers workshops, individual guidance, industry events, live briefs, commissions, competitions, and work-experience listings. A creative-sector careers consultant is available during study, and the University states that careers support continues for up to five years after graduation. These services can help students build networks and portfolios, but the University does not promise a particular role, employer, or salary.
