About KRSU
The Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (KRSU) opened in 1993 under a Kyrgyz-Russian intergovernmental treaty and was named after Boris Yeltsin in 2004. The university describes itself as an interstate humanitarian and scientific-educational project with a special academic and legal status, jointly supported by the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation. It sits in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
Teaching is mostly in Russian. The admissions site lists more than 90 bachelor's and specialty programmes, over 40 master's programmes, 50 postgraduate programmes, 6 PhD programmes, 30+ residency and 30+ internship programmes, and a college. Applicants apply to faculties including Natural Sciences and Technology, Economics, Law, Humanities, International Relations, Medicine, and Architecture, Design and Construction.
Medicine is by far the largest area for foreign students: of 1,557 foreign students in 2025-26, 1,029 were in the medical faculty. The university reports students from Belarus, Israel, India, Kazakhstan, China, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and South Korea, among others.

Selectivity
KRSU does not publish an acceptance rate. Admission is competitive by entrance results for budget and grant places; paid (contract) places are offered on the basis of entrance tests, with minimum scores set per specialty.

KRSU had not published 2027/28 admission dates on 30 September 2026. The date above is from the previous cycle; check the reception campaign page or the admissions line (+996 777 43 12 11, Monday to Saturday 08:00 to 20:00) before applying.
How to apply
Foreign citizens apply for bachelor's, specialty and other programmes on the contract track through the single portal of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Education and Science (edugate.ilim.gov.kg). Citizens of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Russia register at study.krsu.kg. After a recommendation for enrolment the university sends an invitation letter and the applicant applies for a primary electronic study visa in the edugate account, with a passport valid for at least one more year.
What admissions looks for
- Meeting the subject scores set for the chosen specialty (for example Chemistry and Biology for Medicine).
- A secondary school certificate that meets Kyrgyz recognition rules, with a Ministry of Education confirmation where required.
- Enough Russian to study; foreign applicants can prepare through Russian-language preparatory courses and submit the completion document.
- A valid passport and study visa for the whole period of study.
Tips for applying to KRSU
- 1 Apply through edugate.ilim.gov.kg, not study.krsu.kg, if you are a foreign citizen other than a Kyrgyz, Kazakh or Russian citizen.
- 2 Ask the department for foreign students (ird@krsu.kg) whether your certificate needs the Ministry of Education equivalence confirmation; certificates from Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Tajikistan do not.
- 3 Register at your address within 3 working days after the visa is issued; overdue extension papers can bring a fine of 5,500 som or more.
- 4 Submit visa extension documents at least one month before the current visa ends.
- 5 Citizens of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Belarus and Tajikistan travel visa-free under the CIS agreement; other nationals need a visa.

Student life
KRSU is a city university in Bishkek with faculties spread over several addresses, including Chui Avenue, Shabdan Baatyr Avenue and Ankara Street. It runs a Youth Policy department, student associations and clubs, a physical education and sports directorate, an educational and health complex called Zhashtyk, and a department for foreign students that supports adaptation, visas and registration. Foreign students living in university dormitories are registered online by the department.
