About KTU
Kaunas University of Technology traces its beginning to 16 February 1922, when the University of Lithuania and its technical faculties were founded in Kaunas. From 1950 to 1990 it operated as the Kaunas Polytechnic Institute, known for its ultrasound and vibrotechnics laboratories and textile research, and it regained university status in 1990. More than 157,000 people have graduated since 1922.
KTU has 9 faculties, 8 institutes and 9 research centres, from Informatics, Chemical Technology and Mechanical Engineering and Design to Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities and a School of Economics and Business. For the 2026 intake it offered 41 bachelor's programmes, 26 of them taught in English, plus an integrated Architecture programme. It founded two research, study and business valleys, Santaka and Nemunas, and runs an Artificial Intelligence Excellence Centre.

KTU does not publish an acceptance rate. International applicants who meet the minimum requirements (secondary education, at least 60% in each entry subject, English B2) compete on an entry score built from school grades, university entrance exams and, where used, a motivation assessment. More than 500 international students were admitted to full-time degree programmes for 2026.

Applications for the 2026/27 intake ran 15 October 2025 to 1 June 2026, with studies starting 1 September 2026. The 2027 intake dates are set by Rector's order and had not been published at the time of checking.
Expect the 2027 application window to open in autumn 2026 (the 2026 window opened on 15 October 2025) and close around 1 June 2027. Non-EU students should apply early, because temporary residence permits can take up to two months.
How to apply
Apply online at apply.ktu.edu with your passport, photo, school-leaving certificate and supplement, English certificate and any extra evidence; list up to three programme preferences. Review starts once the non-refundable application fee is paid and takes two to three working days. After receiving an invitation, you pay an advance tuition fee for the first year before signing the learning agreement; the final acceptance letter then lets non-EU students apply for a temporary residence permit.
What admissions looks for
- Secondary school results of at least 60% in each subject that counts towards your programme's entry score.
- A passed state or equivalent final exam, or KTU's own entrance exam.
- English at B2 level for English-taught programmes.
- For some programmes, a motivation assessment that adds to the competition score.

Once enrolled, students can compete for Talent scholarships (250 euros a month, 1,000 euros a semester), sponsor and incentive scholarships, one-off social scholarships of up to 980 euros, and dormitory accommodation grants. EU/EEA citizens can also compete for state-funded places.

Artificial Intelligence (BSc)
Four-year English-taught Bachelor of Computing covering machine learning, deep learning, image and speech recognition, with a product development project and a professional internship; 4,201 euros a year.
Robotics

KTU has 12 dormitories, 18 student organisations, 6 art groups and a sports and wellness centre offering 10 kinds of training. Dormitory rooms are single or double, basically furnished, with shared kitchens and free Wi-Fi, costing roughly 110 to 300 euros a month; private rooms in Kaunas cost 200 to 400 euros. New international students get meet-and-greet support and a Welcome Week, and Study@KTU Ambassadors, a group of current students, help newcomers settle in. In 2026, more than 500 new international degree students from 61 countries joined KTU.

Location
Kaunas is Lithuania's second-largest city after Vilnius and an important economic, academic and cultural centre; it served as the country's temporary capital between the two world wars. It is inexpensive for students, with KTU estimating groceries at about 200 euros and public transport at 14 euros a month. Vilnius is about 100 km away, and Kaunas has its own international airport.
