Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode is a public, autonomous management institution in Kerala and one of India’s institutions of national importance under the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017. Founded in 1996, it delivers postgraduate management education and doctoral training from its main residential campus in Kunnamangalam, near Kozhikode. Its portfolio includes the two-year Post Graduate Programme leading to an MBA, specialist postgraduate programs, executive education, and doctoral programs. In 2026–27, IIMK is also beginning its first full-time undergraduate degree, a four-year Bachelor of Management Studies taught at its Kochi Campus. Prospective students should therefore distinguish carefully between the Kozhikode and Kochi locations and between residential, executive, and blended formats. Admissions are program-specific: the flagship PGP uses CAT and subsequent assessment stages, while the new BMS has its own aptitude test and interview process.

About Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode

IIM Kozhikode was established in 1996 through collaboration between the Government of India and the Government of Kerala. It was the fifth Indian Institute of Management to be founded, and its first Post Graduate Programme cohort began in 1997. The institute later moved to its permanent hill campus in Kunnamangalam. Under the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017, each scheduled IIM is a body corporate with authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other academic distinctions; IIM Kozhikode is listed in the Act’s schedule as an institution of national importance. The institute is specialized rather than comprehensive. Its core work is management education, research, executive learning, and related interdisciplinary study. The current portfolio spans a four-year undergraduate BMS, multiple full-time postgraduate programs, MBAs for working executives, and doctoral routes. The new BMS starts in 2026–27 at the Kochi Campus, whereas the principal residential management programs and full-time doctoral work are associated with the Kozhikode campus. Applicants should verify the delivery location and attendance model on the page for their intended program. IIMK’s institutional history and statutory position make it distinct from an affiliated college or private training provider. Its degrees are awarded in its own name. The institute remains operational in 2026: it held its annual convocation in April 2026, awarding MBA and PhD degrees, and publishes current admissions material for 2026–27 and 2026–28 cohorts.

How Admissions Work

Admissions are program-specific. For the flagship PGP 2026–28 cohort, IIMK used CAT 2025 and a three-stage process. Applicants first had to meet category-specific academic and CAT thresholds and complete IIMK’s registration. Shortlisting then considered CAT performance, Class X and XII results, diversity factors, and work experience. Final assessment used CAT, a personal interview, a written ability test, and a résumé score. The policy states that satisfying minimum thresholds or registering does not guarantee an interview. It also applies Government of India reservation rules for Central Educational Institutions. The first BMS cohort follows a separate 2026 process. Eligible applicants must have completed Class XII or hold a recognized diploma, with no stated minimum Class XII percentage for applying. Selection considers the IIMK BMS Aptitude Test, prior academic performance, and a personal interview. The aptitude test assesses verbal and quantitative ability. For the 2026–30 intake, applications ran from 20 February to 25 April 2026, the test was held on 19 May, interviews were planned for June, and classes were scheduled to begin in August. Those dates are historical for this intake and must not be reused for later cohorts. Doctoral admissions are announced annually, with separate eligibility and selection provisions for the full-time, Teaching Track, and Practice Track programs. International applicants and applicants to specialist postgraduate or executive programs should follow their dedicated official pages rather than assuming the domestic PGP process applies.

Academic Experience

IIMK’s academic focus is management and its supporting disciplines. Its postgraduate portfolio includes the flagship two-year Post Graduate Programme, the Post Graduate Programme in Finance, the Post Graduate Programme in Liberal Studies and Management, and the one-year Post Graduate Programme in Business Leadership. Executive options include MBA programs for working professionals. The institute’s academic areas cover economics; finance, accounting and control; humanities and liberal arts in management; information systems; marketing; organizational behavior and human resource management; decision sciences and operations management; and strategic management. The four-year Bachelor of Management Studies begins in the 2026–27 academic year at the Kochi Campus. It combines a Management major with at least one minor. Listed minor fields include Economics and Public Policy, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Psychology and Behavioural Sciences, Finance and Big Data, Liberal Studies in Management, and Marketing, Sales and Digital Promotion. The eight-semester structure includes foundation, management-core, and elective courses. Students may pursue internships, faculty-guided research, or summer coursework. Completion leads to a BMS Honours degree, with an Honours with Research route for students satisfying the research requirements. At doctoral level, IIMK offers the full-time Doctoral Programme in Management plus Teaching Track and Practice Track variants. All lead to a PhD. Eight areas of specialization are available, and progression includes coursework, a comprehensive qualifying examination, proposal and pre-submission seminars, thesis evaluation, and an open defence. The programs typically span five years, though their delivery formats, experience expectations, fees, and fellowship arrangements differ.

Student Life & Environment

Student experience differs materially by program and campus. At the main Kozhikode campus, residential life is central to the two-year postgraduate experience. IIMK reports 20 hostels with capacity for about 1,400 students. Rooms are assigned on either a single or shared basis and include network connectivity. Classrooms, the computer centre, canteens, and other academic facilities are within walking distance of the hostels. Recreation facilities listed for the hostel area include badminton and basketball courts, a football field, a volleyball court, table tennis, a gymnasium, common rooms, and a music room. The campus also has multiple canteens, restaurants, and kiosks. Student Affairs supports a Students’ Council, committees, clubs, interest groups, chapters, events, and a dedicated hostel office. These structures give postgraduate students routes into cultural, professional, social, and administrative activities beyond coursework. Students should not assume that these Kozhikode residential arrangements automatically apply to every program. The new BMS is delivered at the Kochi Campus, while executive and blended programs follow their own schedules and formats. BMS applicants should consult the program’s current accommodation and student-services information before committing, because its published fee schedule treats hostel and mess charges as separate and the general hostel page describes the main IIMK campus.

Location & Surroundings

The principal campus is in Kunnamangalam, in the Kozhikode area of northern Kerala, with the postal address IIMK Campus P.O., Kozhikode 673570. The institute describes the site as a roughly 112.5-acre campus spread across two hillocks. It became IIMK’s permanent home after the institute’s initial years at the NIT Calicut campus. The setting is physically separate from central Kozhikode, so students should assess daily transport, arrival logistics, and the residential expectations of their particular program rather than treating the database’s city label as a city-centre location. IIMK also operates a Kochi Campus in Kakkanad, within the Kochi metropolitan area. This distinction is especially important from 2026–27 because the new full-time BMS is taught in Kochi, not at the principal Kozhikode campus. Some executive education is also associated with Kochi. Applicants comparing housing, commute, climate, facilities, or local career access should use the campus specified on the relevant program page; facilities described for one site should not be assumed to exist at the other.

Costs & Career Outcomes

Costs vary substantially by degree and delivery format. For the BMS 2026–30 cohort, the official schedule sets the program fee at INR 700,000 per year, payable at the beginning of each year. It covers tuition, course materials, and academic and administrative components. Hostel and mess charges are additional, as are costs connected with exchange visits, study tours, industry visits, projects, and internships. The schedule also lists a one-time INR 10,000 admission fee, a refundable INR 25,000 caution deposit, a INR 10,000 alumni fee at graduation, and a INR 2,000 annual student-welfare contribution. Students must maintain the specified medical-insurance coverage. These figures apply to the 2026–30 BMS cohort, not automatically to other programs or later intakes. IIMK publishes a separate 2026–28 fee schedule for the flagship PGP, so applicants should use that program document rather than the BMS figures. The full-time DPM currently states that it has no tuition fee and provides a staged monthly fellowship; the Teaching and Practice Tracks charge program fees and do not provide that fellowship. Scholarship information for the two-year PGP family includes an institute merit scholarship based on academic performance, alongside other listed schemes whose eligibility varies. Career support is also program-specific. For the two-year PGP, PGP-Finance, and PGP-LSM, the institute runs lateral and final placement processes, with final placements held near the end of the second year. The BMS separately advertises internships and career services, but its first cohort only begins in 2026–27, so no BMS graduate placement outcomes yet exist.
