Sign up to see your chancesIndian Institute of Management Bangalore is a public, degree-granting management institution and an Institute of National Importance in Bengaluru, India. Established in 1973, it operates independently under the Indian Institutes of Management Act. Its portfolio is concentrated in management and related fields rather than the broad subject range of a comprehensive university. Degree options include an online BBA in Digital Business and Entrepreneurship, full-time and working-professional MBA programmes, and a PhD in Management. The flagship two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management is a residential MBA combining a first-year core, second-year electives and an internship period. Students should distinguish carefully between formats: the undergraduate BBA is online, while several postgraduate programmes use residential, executive or hybrid structures. The Bannerghatta Road campus supports postgraduate teaching, research, student organizations and employer engagement in Bengaluru’s major technology and business environment.
About Indian Institute of Management Bangalore
Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, commonly called IIMB, was established in 1973 and is located on Bannerghatta Road in south Bengaluru. It is not a business department within another university. The Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017 lists IIM Bangalore as a separately incorporated statutory institute, designates the IIMs as Institutions of National Importance and gives them authority to grant degrees. Official programme and convocation records show that the institute remained active and degree-granting in 2026. IIMB is a specialist management institution. Its degree portfolio includes the online Bachelor of Business Administration in Digital Business and Entrepreneurship, the two-year MBA offered through the Post Graduate Programme in Management, an MBA in Business Analytics, programmes designed for experienced professionals, and a PhD in Management. It also provides executive education and certificate offerings, which should not be confused with its degree programmes. The principal campus occupies a 100-acre site on Bannerghatta Road. IIMB reports approximately 1,200 students in degree-granting programmes and 104 full-time faculty, alongside a much larger annual executive-education population. These figures describe different populations and should not be combined when judging the size of the degree-student community. Prospective students should select first by programme format and intended career stage: the BBA is delivered online and currently restricted to Indian nationals, the flagship PGP is a full-time residential MBA, and other postgraduate options serve business-analytics students or experienced working professionals.

How Admissions Work
Admissions are programme-specific. For the PGP/MBA 2026–28 domestic cycle, applicants generally needed a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA; the threshold was 45% for SC, ST and PwD applicants. Eligible CA, ICWA or CS holders completing the qualification after Class XII could also apply under the stated conditions. Applicants needed a valid CAT score, academic records, a statement of purpose and two online references. Work-experience evidence and category or disability documentation applied where relevant. Shortlisting and final selection used multiple components, including CAT performance and a personal interview; published minimum thresholds did not guarantee an interview. The online BBA followed a different 2026 process and was open only to Indian nationals. General, NC-OBC and EWS applicants needed at least 60% in Class XII or equivalent, while SC, ST and PwD applicants needed 55%. Candidates could use the IIMB entrance test or accepted CUET (UG) General Test or JEE Main scores from specified years. Applications for the 2026 BBA cycle closed on 30 June 2026, so this date should not be reused for a later cycle. Doctoral admission also follows a separate area-specific process using accepted national or international tests, followed by further assessment and interview requirements. International candidates, executive applicants and exchange students should use their dedicated routes. Exchange admission is by nomination from a partner institution and is not a general application to an IIMB degree.
Academic Experience
IIMB’s academic scope centers on management, analytics, entrepreneurship, economics, public policy and organizational decision-making. The flagship Post Graduate Programme in Management is a two-year, full-time residential course leading to an MBA. Its first year comprises 17 core courses and two electives across three terms. The published core covers accounting, finance, economics, marketing, operations, strategy, decision sciences, organizational design, communication, digital business, entrepreneurship, ethics and sustainability. A summer-internship period separates the two academic years; the internship is optional for students entering with at least 34 months of work experience. The second year is substantially elective-based, with students completing 45 to 51 elective credits across three terms. Recent offerings span functional and interdisciplinary subjects, but the institute cautions that the elective list can change with demand and faculty availability. Teaching methods include lectures, cases, discussion, simulations, projects, role play, industry interaction and experiential work. IIMB also operates a student-exchange programme, although participation rules and available courses depend on the relevant degree and partner institution. Beyond the general MBA, IIMB awards an MBA in Business Analytics and offers degree programmes tailored to experienced professionals. Its five-year, full-time PhD in Management supports specialization in Decision Sciences, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance and Accounting, Information Systems, Marketing, Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management, Production and Operations Management, Public Policy, or Strategy. The BBA in Digital Business and Entrepreneurship is a separate three-year online undergraduate degree with staged certificate and diploma exit options. Students seeking a conventional residential bachelor’s experience should therefore not assume that the undergraduate programme uses the Bengaluru campus in the same way as the residential postgraduate programmes.

Student Life & Environment
Student experience varies considerably by programme. Full-time PGP students receive campus accommodation, and the published 2026–28 fee includes hostel room rent and service charges. Students may arrange off-campus housing in their second year. The online BBA should not be treated as a residential campus programme, while housing arrangements for executive, exchange and other cohorts follow their own programme rules. On the Bannerghatta Road campus, IIMB’s student-life page reports more than 52 student clubs and more than 20 annual events. It also identifies student accommodation and cafeteria services as parts of campus life. These organizations and events can support professional interests, cultural activity and peer interaction, but availability and eligibility may differ by cohort. Applicants should confirm access directly with their programme rather than assuming every activity is open to online, hybrid or short-duration students. The institute has an Office of Diversity and Inclusion and states that it works to remove physical, instructional and digital barriers for students with disabilities. Its PGP disability policy provides for individual needs assessment through the relevant support office. International exchange adds another dimension to campus life, but incoming exchange students must be nominated by their home institution and hostel availability varies by term. The official 2026–27 fact sheet says accommodation may be available in Term V, while students in Terms IV or VI may need off-campus arrangements.
Location & Surroundings
IIMB’s main campus is in Bilekahalli on Bannerghatta Road, south Bengaluru, with the official postal address Bengaluru 560076. The institute describes the site as a 100-acre campus. Its setting places students within India’s largest technology and start-up ecosystem and near companies operating across technology, consumer products and professional services. That context supports industry interaction and recruitment, although access to particular employers is never guaranteed. Bengaluru is a large, congested metropolitan area, so journey times should be evaluated by time of day rather than distance alone. IIMB’s directions page advises that a taxi journey from Kempegowda International Airport can take about 90 minutes; traffic can make actual travel longer. The campus lies on a major arterial road rather than in the central business district. Location matters differently across programmes. Residential PGP students live and study on the Bannerghatta Road campus, while the BBA in Digital Business and Entrepreneurship is delivered online. Executive, hybrid and exchange students should consult their programme-specific schedules and accommodation guidance before planning a move to Bengaluru.
Costs & Career Outcomes
For the domestic PGP batch of 2026–28, IIMB lists a two-year programme fee of INR 2,600,000 plus a refundable general caution deposit of INR 30,000. The programme fee covers tuition, library and internet access, course materials, hostel room rent and service charges, specified insurance, and alumni activities. Students must additionally pay a mess advance of INR 30,000 each term, and applicable taxes may be collected separately. These amounts apply specifically to the domestic PGP 2026–28 batch, not to every IIMB programme or international student. PGP students with annual household income below INR 800,000 may apply for need-based financial aid. Applicants facing severe unforeseen financial hardship may also be considered. Awards are not automatic: the institute evaluates income, savings, property and other assets and may conduct a faculty-panel interaction. For the 2026 online BBA cohort, total tuition was INR 450,000 across three years, paid term by term. The official policy provided a 50% fee waiver for SC, ST and PwD students. These BBA figures should not be applied to postgraduate study. Career Development Services organizes internships, lateral recruitment and final placements for eligible programmes. In the 2026 PGP and PGPBA placement cycle, 596 participating students received 664 offers from 177 firms. Consulting represented 45% of offers, technology and product management 15%, and investment banking 11%. These are cohort-level outcomes rather than guarantees for individuals, and they do not describe the online BBA, PhD or every executive programme.
