Humber is part of Ontario’s publicly funded college system rather than the province’s university sector. That distinction matters: its institutional emphasis is applied, career-oriented education, but it also has authority to award approved four-year honours bachelor’s degrees and, beginning in 2026, applied master’s degrees. The institution remains legally incorporated under its longstanding statutory name while operating publicly as Humber Polytechnic. The institution began in 1967, initially teaching several hundred skilled-trades students. It subsequently developed into a comprehensive postsecondary provider spanning business, technology, health, media and creative disciplines, social and community services, skilled trades and other professional fields. The current credential mix allows students to enter at different stages, including directly from secondary school, after previous postsecondary study or as working professionals seeking specialized education. Humber’s polytechnic approach places practical application alongside academic study. Depending on the program, this can include laboratories, studios, simulations, applied research, field placements, co-op, internships, apprenticeships or industry projects. These experiences are not identical across every credential, so applicants should verify whether work-integrated learning is mandatory, optional, paid or unpaid on the relevant program page. The August 2024 name change did not create a separate institution. It marked a new operating identity for the existing Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. Official sources reviewed in August 2026 show active recruitment, current programs and 2026 master’s intakes, supporting continued operating status.

Admission is program-specific. Humber evaluates previous credentials, required subjects and grades and, for some programs, supplemental material such as portfolios, auditions or tests. Meeting the published minimum does not guarantee an offer because qualified applicants may be ranked and competitive programs can fill. Applicants should use the exact program page for their intended intake rather than relying on a general institutional threshold. For a typical honours bachelor’s degree, Humber describes the baseline as an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent plus six Grade 12 university or university/college preparation courses, with the institution’s required average and any program-specific prerequisites. Certificate and diploma requirements differ. Applicants educated outside Ontario must establish the relevant equivalency, and all applicants must satisfy Humber’s English-language proficiency policy. International candidates should use Humber’s country-specific equivalency guidance and must also consider current Canadian study-permit requirements. Applications to full-time Ontario college programs are generally submitted through ontariocolleges.ca. Humber’s standing admissions calendar identifies February 1 as the equal-consideration date; applications after that date are considered according to space, and offers issued after the general confirmation period carry their own response deadline. Because intake availability and deposit dates change, applicants for 2026 or 2027 should verify the live important-dates page, program status and offer letter. Transfer, mature and previously postsecondary-educated applicants follow category-specific assessment procedures and may separately seek transfer credit or prior-learning recognition.

Humber’s academic portfolio is broader than its degree offerings alone. Students can pursue Ontario college certificates, diplomas and advanced diplomas, apprenticeships, Ontario graduate certificates, four-year honours bachelor’s degrees and other continuing or professional credentials. These awards have different entry standards and academic purposes; an Ontario graduate certificate, for example, is a postgraduate college credential and should not be confused with a master’s degree. The bachelor’s portfolio includes more than 30 programs across areas such as commerce, computing, engineering, health sciences, design, media, social science, music and community-focused fields. Official degree guidance describes these as four-year honours programs with career-focused curricula and work-integrated learning. Some related programs provide diploma-to-degree pathways or transfer-credit opportunities, but advanced standing depends on the applicant’s prior credential and the specific pathway. Humber entered graduate degree education with two applied master’s offerings accepting applications in 2026: the Master of Engineering in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and the Master of Computer Science in Cybersecurity Operations and Management. The advanced-manufacturing program’s first cohort is scheduled for fall 2026, while Humber’s main site advertises a May 2026 start for the cybersecurity program. These are new offerings, so applicants should consult their individual pages for current intake availability, prerequisites and delivery arrangements. Experiential education is coordinated through the academic faculties. Possible formats include field placement, co-op, internship, mandatory professional practice, apprenticeship, service learning and applied research projects. Presence, duration and compensation differ by program; students should not assume that every course of study includes a paid placement.

Student Life & Environment

Student experience differs between Humber’s large North Campus, its waterfront Lakeshore Campus and the smaller downtown graduate location. North and Lakeshore have the fullest range of campus-life infrastructure. Official campus information identifies student residences at both locations, while North Campus also includes the Humber Arboretum, fitness and recreation facilities, specialized technology and trades spaces, and student-operated learning environments. Humber’s student-services directory connects learners with counselling and mental-health services, health services, academic accommodations, libraries, math and writing support, peer tutoring, learning-skills workshops and student-success advising. Community and belonging resources include Indigenous Education and Engagement, Black student support, an LGBTQ+ Resource Centre, peer mentorship and spirituality and wellness services. Availability and delivery may differ by campus or online. Students can participate in orientation, first-year programming, athletics, recreation and events supported by Humber and its student organization. Residence is an application-based option rather than a guaranteed feature of admission. Location & Surroundings

Humber’s principal locations give students distinct Toronto settings. North Campus is at 205 Humber College Boulevard in northwest Toronto. It is the institution’s largest campus and combines substantial academic facilities with wooded surroundings and the Humber Arboretum. Students should evaluate commute times carefully: being within Toronto does not mean that downtown destinations are immediately adjacent. Lakeshore Campus is at 2 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Drive in southwest Toronto, beside Lake Ontario. Its setting combines historic buildings, modern facilities and access to nearby parkland and waterfront trails. Both North and Lakeshore offer residence, campus tours and student services, although particular programs are assigned to specific locations. The Downtown Campus, formerly described as the International Graduate School, is at 59 Hayden Street near central Toronto’s business and technology districts. It primarily serves postgraduate and graduate-focused study and does not reproduce the residential campus environment of North or Lakeshore. Program location should therefore be treated as a core selection factor. Applicants should confirm where all semesters are delivered and account for Toronto housing, transit and commuting costs before accepting an offer.

Costs & Career Outcomes

Humber does not have one institution-wide tuition price suitable for every applicant. Charges depend on credential, program, domestic or international status and academic term, with ancillary fees and program materials potentially added. The official tuition page directs students to program-level fee information. Applicants should build a budget from the fee quoted for their exact program and intake, then add books, supplies, transportation, housing, food and personal expenses. The 2026–2027 viewbook contains planning figures, but it explicitly states that its displayed average tuition and living-cost estimates were drawn from the 2024–2025 academic year. Those figures should not be treated as current 2026–2027 prices. Residence and dining contracts are also issued by academic year. Students considering campus housing should use the current contract and confirm room type, mandatory dining arrangements, deposit schedule and cancellation terms before committing. Financial assistance may include government aid, scholarships and need-based bursaries, subject to each program’s and applicant’s eligibility rules. Career preparation is integrated differently across programs. Humber identifies work-integrated formats including placements, co-op, internships, apprenticeships, professional practice and applied research. Students should establish whether their program’s experience is required, competitive, paid or self-arranged.
