Student life is centered mainly on HTWK’s south Leipzig campus, where teaching buildings, the university library, media facilities, laboratories, a sports centre and the Mensa Academica dining hall are located within a relatively compact urban area. Students can apply separately to Studentenwerk Leipzig once they hold an admission letter or valid enrolment certificate. Room offers depend on availability, and the housing provider explicitly says it cannot guarantee a place or every applicant’s preferred room type. Location & Surroundings

HTWK Leipzig’s main campus is in the south of Leipzig, around Karl-Liebknecht-Straße and adjoining streets. The area contains most of the university’s principal teaching and student-service buildings, although HTWK also operates buildings and research facilities at other locations across Leipzig. Applicants should check the location attached to their particular faculty and programme rather than assuming that every class takes place on the main campus. The main campus is integrated into Leipzig’s public-transport network. Tram lines 9, 10 and 11 serve the Richard-Lehmann-Straße, HTWK stop and connect with Leipzig’s main railway station; the university estimates the trip from the station at about 15 minutes. Bus services also reach the campus, while Leipzig/Halle Airport connects by S-Bahn to the main station. Parking near the campus is described as limited, so public transport is the more predictable option. The urban setting places students within Leipzig rather than on a secluded residential campus. Housing may be in a Studentenwerk residence, private shared flat or other accommodation elsewhere in the city, making commute time and transport access relevant when comparing options.

Costs & Career Outcomes

HTWK states that it charges no tuition for a first bachelor’s degree and no tuition for most master’s programmes. This is not a universal no-fee promise: the university identifies fee-charging exceptions among continuing-education or internationally cooperative master’s provision, and fees can also apply to second degrees or extended study under specified conditions. Students whose bachelor’s or master’s study exceeds the standard programme duration by more than four semesters may face a long-term study charge of €500 for each further semester. All enrolled students must also pay a semester contribution at enrolment and re-registration. This supports Studentenwerk services, student representation and transport-related benefits. The English finance page still displays a summer 2024 amount, so it should not be used as the current 2026/27 total. Students should obtain the live contribution from HTWK’s re-registration information before budgeting. Housing, food, study materials and health insurance are separate costs; international students must provide health-insurance evidence that meets German enrolment requirements. Residence-hall availability and rent depend on the specific Studentenwerk property and room offer. Career preparation reflects the applied academic model.
