The Wismar campus concentrates nearly all laboratories and facilities serving Wismar-based programs within a relatively compact area. Experience differs at Rostock-Warnemünde. Maritime students have a coastal campus near port activity, access to Rostock’s urban and cultural life, and eligibility for local university-sport opportunities. A student residence exists in Warnemünde, but places are described as sought after, so early applications are advisable. Warnemünde students also have a semester-based transport arrangement that does not apply at the Wismar location. International students can use the International Office for application and arrival guidance, but learning German remains valuable even when the degree itself is taught in English.

Wismar is a Baltic Sea port city in northwestern Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The principal campus is close enough to the city’s services for short everyday journeys, and the university describes most Wismar laboratories and facilities as concentrated there. Recreation includes cinemas, cafés, student venues, and water-based activities around Wismar Bay, but applicants seeking a large metropolitan environment should recognize that Wismar is a smaller city. The university’s second principal teaching location is Rostock-Warnemünde, serving maritime studies, systems engineering, and logistics. Warnemünde sits at the Baltic coast and is connected by S-Bahn with central Rostock and its main station. This gives maritime students access to a larger university city while keeping teaching close to the port and marine environment. Campus assignment should be checked before arranging housing or transport. Winter 2026/27 semester contributions are substantially different at the two locations because Warnemünde’s contribution includes transport and culture-ticket components that are absent in Wismar.

Hochschule Wismar states that it does not charge tuition for its regular on-campus degree courses. This should not be generalized to every offering: distance, online, part-time, or continuing-education programs may charge separate program fees, so applicants must consult the relevant course page. Students also need to budget for accommodation, food, health insurance, study materials, communications, and other living expenses. For first enrollment in winter semester 2026/27, the official contribution was €147.50 at Wismar and €379.30 at Warnemünde. The corresponding re-registration totals were €123.00 and €354.80. Warnemünde’s higher total included a €226.80 Deutschlandticket and a €5 culture ticket; those components did not apply at Wismar. Contributions are time-sensitive and must be checked again for later semesters. Housing is a separate expense, and residence capacity is not guaranteed.
