Student life is centered on a walkable campus in Weingarten shared in part with the neighboring University of Education. RWU buildings contain the student council, central advising, International Office, language center, library, laboratories and teaching rooms. The university and its neighbor jointly support university sports; facilities behind RWU’s main building include an indoor pool, gym and gymnastics room. Sports schedules change each semester, and some popular activities have limited capacity, so students should consult the current program rather than rely on an older timetable. Available groups can change, but the institutional directory gives new students a practical starting point. Housing is not guaranteed or centrally allocated by RWU. Residence providers operate buildings in both Weingarten and Ravensburg, while other students use shared apartments or the private rental market. RWU specifically warns international degree-seeking students that residence rooms are limited, that its International Office cannot reserve a room, and that the local market is tight near the beginning of a semester. Applying early and pursuing several housing options is therefore important.

RWU’s campus is in Weingarten in Upper Swabia, while the institution retains Ravensburg in its name because it originated there and serves the linked Ravensburg-Weingarten area. Most students live in Weingarten, Ravensburg or nearby communities; some commute from elsewhere in the region. The campus is designed for movement on foot and can also be reached by bicycle, car and local buses. Stops on or near the grounds include Doggenriedstraße, Hochschule and Weiherweg. The setting offers a smaller-city alternative to a large metropolitan campus. Ravensburg provides a larger nearby urban center, while the wider region extends toward Lake Constance and southern Germany’s border areas. Students should assess transport and housing together: accommodation may be located in either city, and RWU notes that many students commute daily. Local bike and pedelec services, car-sharing and public-transport options can supplement walking, but schedules, routes and ticket products should be checked with the regional transport provider before committing to housing. The compact academic campus does not mean that every residence or off-campus activity is within walking distance.

Costs & Career Outcomes

RWU states that students in a first degree at this public institution generally do not pay standard tuition, but all students pay a semester contribution. Its current guidance gives approximately €215 per semester, comprising administrative, student-services and student-representation components, plus a one-time €9 student-card charge in the first semester. RWU’s international financing page therefore states a first-semester total of €224 and €215 from the second semester. Fees can change, so applicants should verify the amount stated in their enrollment notice. Under Baden-Württemberg rules described by RWU, students from outside the EU generally pay an additional €1,500 in tuition per semester, subject to statutory exemptions.
