Student life at HGB is closely connected to artistic production and presentation. The annual university tour turns work from the academic year into exhibitions, performances, installations and other public formats. HGB states that a first course of study and Meisterschüler study do not carry tuition fees. Students must nevertheless pay semester contributions. For winter semester 2026/27, HGB’s English student page lists a total re-registration payment of €325.80, before any individually applicable charges. This includes student-services and student-representation components, with the 2026/27 Deutschland semester ticket accounting for €226.80. Applicants should verify the amount for their entry semester because contributions can change. Additional fees apply in defined cases rather than to every student. HGB lists a €500-per-semester long-term-study fee above the fourteenth subject semester. Certain students entering a Diplom after an earlier master’s, Magister, Diplom or comparable qualification may owe €100 per semester under the published conditions. The continuing-education master’s program has its own fee arrangements, so the tuition-free statement for initial and Meisterschüler study should not be generalized to it. Living costs are separate.
