About Unhas
Hasanuddin University was officially established on 10 September 1956 in Makassar, growing out of a Faculty of Economics that had operated as a branch of the University of Indonesia since 1947, a Faculty of Law founded in 1952 and a Faculty of Medicine launched in January 1956. Engineering followed in 1960 and Letters soon after. It is today a state university with legal-entity autonomy (PTN-BH) and describes its mission as developing science, technology, arts and culture grounded in the Indonesian Maritime Continent.
Unhas reports more than 34,000 students, about 30,850 of them undergraduates, in 17 faculties spanning medicine, dentistry, public health, pharmacy and nursing; engineering and natural sciences; law, economics and business, social and political sciences and humanities; and agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, and marine science and fisheries, plus a vocational faculty and graduate school. For 2026 it offered places in 74 bachelor's and 14 applied bachelor's programmes.
Entry is highly competitive: in 2026 only 10.5% of the 33,222 applicants through the national merit-based SNBP route were admitted, and Medicine drew over 3,100 applicants in the national test-based SNBT route. Several programmes, including Medicine, Dentistry, Law, Civil Engineering and Informatics, run English-medium international classes. The 2026 intake capacity was 11,623 places: about 30% through SNBP, 50% through the national computer-based test (SNBT-UTBK, 5,848 admitted in 2026) and 20% through Unhas's own Mandiri routes. Deadlines
Admission follows Indonesia's national SNPMB calendar, which is published each year. In the 2026 cycle, SNBP results were announced on 31 March 2026, SNBP re-registration and UKT verification ran from 2 to 27 April, and SNBT re-registration ran from 27 May to 17 June, with UKT payment due by 20 June 2026. Dates for 2027 have not yet been published.

Indonesian students apply through the national SNPMB system for SNBP and SNBT, then through Unhas's own registration portal (regpmb.unhas.ac.id) for Mandiri routes, re-registration and UKT fee verification. Tuition is charged as a single fee (UKT) set by family economic circumstances in nine bands, and Unhas says it will not let students drop out for financial reasons. Between January and May 2024 it gave scholarships to 8,677 students, most of them through the government's KIP-Kuliah programme. On Unhas's main campus in Tamalanrea, Makassar, the RAMSIS dormitories have three units with 669 rooms, each shared by up to two students with bunk beds, desks and wardrobes; Unit I is for men and includes a block for international students, while Units II and III are for women. The university hosts an annual International Cultural Program alongside exchange programmes with partner universities abroad, and students have been national champions of PIMNAS, Indonesia's student science week.
