About HUST

Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) was founded in 1956 as Hanoi Polytechnic University; its first cohort was 848 students in 14 majors. Wikipedia calls it the first and largest technical university in Vietnam, and HUST's own welcome page describes it as the first multidisciplinary technical university in Vietnam. Since a December 2022 decision it is an autonomous public service unit directly under the Ministry of Education and Training. It is at No. 1 Dai Co Viet, Bach Mai, Hanoi, on a campus of about 31 hectares by the university's own figure.

Its academic units are six schools (Chemistry and Life Sciences; Economics and Management; Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Information and Communication Technology; Materials Science and Engineering; Mechanical Engineering) and seven faculties, including Mathematics and Informatics and Engineering Physics. The university's quick-facts page (August 2023) reports 36,450 undergraduate and 1,405 graduate students, about 1,250 academic staff and technicians, 160 academic programmes and 160 full-time international students.

International students can choose from 19 English-taught undergraduate programmes, from Mechatronic and Automotive Engineering to Global ICT, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security, including joint degrees with Troy University (two) and Griffith University (one). Its guidelines ask for IELTS 5.0, a bank statement and an online interview.
