About Gdańsk Tech

Gdańsk University of Technology opened on 6 October 1904 as the Royal Technical University of Danzig (Königliche Technische Hochschule zu Danzig) and was re-established as a Polish state university by a decree of 24 May 1945. It is the oldest university of technology in present-day Poland and holds 'research university' status under the national Excellence Initiative (IDUB) programme. Its neo-Renaissance Main Building, whose clock tower was rebuilt in 2012, still anchors an 80-hectare campus in the Wrzeszcz district.

About 14,700 degree students (2024 activity report; the university's facts page rounds its total to over 16,000) study across eight faculties: Architecture; Chemistry; Civil and Environmental Engineering; Electrical and Control Engineering; Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics; Management and Economics; Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology; and Applied Physics and Mathematics. Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics and Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology are the largest faculties, and Informatics and Civil Engineering are among the biggest programmes.

Most teaching is in Polish, but the university runs seven English-taught bachelor's programmes, including Data Engineering, Green Technologies, Power Engineering and Architecture, and had around 870 international students in 2024/25. It suits applicants who are strong in mathematics and want a hands-on engineering degree in a Baltic port city, at fees well below Western European levels.

Why students choose Gdańsk Tech

01

Seven English-taught bachelor's programmes, from Data Engineering and Green Technologies to Mechanical Engineering and Architecture, cost 8,600 to 10,000 zł a semester for non-EU students in 2026/27.

02

Admission is transparent: applicants are ranked by a published points formula built on mathematics plus one programme-specific subject such as physics, chemistry or informatics.

03

The university holds national 'research university' (IDUB) status and runs research centres in digital technologies, biotechnology and medicine, eco-technologies and advanced materials.

04

It belongs to the Fahrenheit Union of Universities with the University of Gdańsk and the Medical University of Gdańsk, and has 98 research clubs and student organisations and 27 sports sections.

Admissions

Entry October 2027 (bachelor's programmes)

Selectivity

Gdańsk Tech publishes no overall admission rate. Candidates are ranked by points (mathematics plus an additional subject), so the threshold for each programme depends on that year's applicant pool; English-taught programmes also need enough candidates to start.

Testing No SAT or ACT. Candidates with school certificates from outside the EU, EEA, EFTA and OECD countries (other than Ukraine, China, IB or EB) must sit Gdańsk Tech's mathematics entrance examination, held in person and online. Architecture applicants take an architectural aptitude test.
Grades Points are calculated as W = mathematics × p + additional subject × p, where p is 1.0 for state-exam results with specified subject scores and 0.3 for school-certificate grades, with values in between for other exams, so submitting state examination results raises your score.

Typical entry requirements

School leaving certificate (EU, EEA, EFTA or OECD country, Ukraine, China)Certificate giving access to university in the issuing country; grades in mathematics and the additional subject are converted to points (e.g. physics for Mechanical and Power Engineering, physics or informatics for Data Engineering, physics or chemistry for Green Technologies)
School leaving certificate (other countries)Mandatory Gdańsk Tech mathematics entrance examination, whose score is used directly, plus the additional subject from the state exam or school certificate; NAWA recognition statement and apostille or legalisation required
IB Diploma / European BaccalaureateAccepted without a recognition procedure; results converted to points
Polish maturaMathematics plus a programme-specific additional subject, with extra points for listed qualifications
English languageIELTS 5.5 · TOEFL iBT 72 English-taught programmes require B2: e.g. IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72 (tests before 21 January 2026) or 4 on the new scale, PTE Academic 59, Cambridge B2 First or higher. IB and EB holders and graduates of a 9-month B2 preparatory course are exempt.

Gdańsk Tech has published only the 2026/27 schedule. The bachelor's intake runs once a year, from May to July, for October entry; expect 2027 dates to follow the same pattern, and start the apostille or legalisation of your certificate early.

How to apply

Register on the eRekrutacja online system while the intake is open (late May to early July for October entry), pay the non-refundable fee (85 zł; 100 zł if you sit the mathematics exam; 150 zł for Architecture), and upload your certificate, transcript, translations, NAWA recognition statement if needed, English certificate and photo. You may list several programmes in order of preference. Successful candidates pay at least the first semester's fee (usually within two weeks of the offer letter), apply for a Polish D-type visa, and bring original documents to registration week in September.

What admissions looks for

  • Mathematics results above all: mathematics counts in every programme's points formula.
  • A strong result in the programme's additional subject, such as physics, chemistry, informatics, geography or history of art.
  • Results from state examinations, which carry more weight than school-certificate grades.
  • For Architecture, a pass in the university's architectural aptitude test.

Tips for applying to Gdańsk Tech

  1. 1 Upload your national exam results even though they are optional: the FAQ says they convert into more points and improve your chances.
  2. 2 Order your programme choices carefully: if you qualify for your first choice, later choices are not considered.
  3. 3 If your certificate is from outside the exempt list, prepare for the mathematics entrance exam, whose score replaces your school maths grade.
  4. 4 Pay at least one semester's fee by the deadline in your offer letter, as the admission confirmation for your visa follows that payment.
  5. 5 Ask about a dormitory place early: rooms are shared by two or three students and cost up to 700 zł a month.
