ENSAD Dijon traces its institutional history to the Dijon School of Fine Arts, which officially opened on 22 December 1766. For first-year entry in 2026, applicants holding or preparing the French baccalauréat, or an accepted equivalent qualification, had to register through Parcoursup between 19 January and 12 March. Admission was conditional on obtaining the baccalauréat. Applicants also uploaded a portfolio by 1 April and paid the €39 competition fee by 3 April unless exempt as scholarship recipients. The in-person entrance examination ran from 4 to 7 May 2026 and included an artistic and general-culture exercise plus an interview in which candidates presented personal work. The school states that the competition has no age limit. A limited derogation route exists for applicants over 18 without the baccalauréat, subject to approval of their background by the school’s director. Applicants seeking second- through fifth-year entry use an equivalence process. For 2026, their online application period ran from 19 January to 22 February, followed by remote jury interviews on 17–19 March. Non-resident applicants coming from foreign art schools were directed to CampusArt. International degree applicants may enter the first-year competition or apply later by equivalence. The first-year examination is conducted in French. The school requires at least B2 French for advanced entry; B1 may be accepted in first year, but B2 must be reached before progression to second year. Foreign-language documents must be translated into French and certified. The curriculum covers ten semesters in two progressive cycles. All students share a general first year intended to build theoretical and technical foundations, visual and critical culture, working methods and experience across different artistic practices. They then choose Art or Space Design. Years two and three lead to the Diplôme national d’art, a national award carrying the licence grade and level 6 classification. Years four and five lead to the Diplôme national supérieur d’expression plastique, carrying the master grade and level 7 classification. In Art, students develop an independent visual-research project while working across drawing, sculpture, installation, sound, performance, image and video. Available technical environments include traditional material workshops as well as photography, audiovisual, digital and three-dimensional production. Theory and art history provide historical and interdisciplinary context rather than operating separately from studio development. Space Design addresses projects from objects and interiors to scenography, public space, microarchitecture, cities and landscapes. First-cycle work develops project methodology, representation, model-making and material experimentation. At second-cycle level, students define a personal subject, with teaching attentive to ecological transition, biodiversity, participation and inclusion. The fourth year includes a substantial outward-facing component: during its first semester, students undertake either study at a partner institution abroad or an internship in France or abroad. The remainder of the second cycle develops the research mémoire and personal project for the DNSEP assessment. The fifth year is focused heavily on the written and artistic diploma work. ENSAD Dijon does not list a PhD program among its degrees.

Student Life & Environment

Student life is closely tied to studio work, shared technical facilities and the school’s artistic program.
