About E-JUST
The Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) was set up under a 2009 bilateral agreement between the Egyptian and Japanese governments and admitted its first students in 2010. Egypt funds and staffs the university, while the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) sends academic and administrative experts and a consortium of Japanese universities supports teaching, joint research and graduate co-supervision. It is governed by a board of trustees drawn from both countries.
The campus is in New Borg El Arab, an industrial new city in Alexandria Governorate. Undergraduate teaching covers engineering (in three schools, with majors from mechatronics and aerospace to biomedical and petrochemical engineering), computer science and IT, basic and applied sciences, international business, pharmacy (a six-year PharmD) and art and design. All programmes are taught in English, and engineering students choose their department from the fourth semester.
The university describes its model as Japanese-style education: laboratory, project and problem-based learning, small-group seminars and close links with industry. It is small, with about 4,600 undergraduates and 312 postgraduates, and selective: applicants pass document screening, a faculty-specific entrance exam and a personal interview. It suits science-minded students who want a research-oriented, English-medium degree in Egypt.

Applications run in several groups; exam and interview dates are sent to shortlisted applicants by email.

How to apply
Apply online through the E-JUST EduPortal and upload academic and ID documents. Shortlisted applicants are invited by email to the entrance exam (on campus or online; fee EGP 1,500 on campus or EGP 2,500 online for Egyptians, US$50 for international applicants), then to a personal interview in New Borg El Arab. Final decisions are emailed about three days after interviews; admitted students submit original documents and pay tuition.
What admissions looks for
- A strong secondary-school result in the required subjects: mathematics, physics and chemistry for engineering.
- Performance on the faculty's entrance exam, which tests basic understanding rather than a specific curriculum.
- A successful personal interview at the campus in New Borg El Arab.
- English good enough to study entirely in English, shown by the E-JUST test, TOEFL iBT 60 or IELTS 6.0.
Tips for applying to E-JUST
- 1 Download the sample entrance-exam papers and answer keys for maths, English, chemistry, physics and logical thinking from the faculty's entrance exam page.
- 2 Send a TOEFL or IELTS score if you have one, to skip the E-JUST English test.
- 3 Your Thanaweya Amma total and entrance-exam score (weighted 50:50) decide merit scholarships, so the exam matters beyond admission.
- 4 Holders of foreign certificates must also pass the Thanaweya Amma Arabic and religion exams before or after final acceptance.

E-JUST's 2026-27 scholarship scheme gives 10 full-tuition scholarships per stream to students in the top 100 of the Egyptian Thanaweya Amma, and tuition cuts of 40% (combined score above 95%) or 20% (90-95%) based equally on the Thanaweya Amma result and the entrance exam. There are also scholarships for students from New Valley, North and South Sinai, Matrouh and Aswan governorates (including housing and meals), STEM-school graduates, government IB-school graduates and sports medallists.

Student life
E-JUST is a residential campus on the edge of New Borg El Arab, and many students from other governorates or abroad live on site. University housing for 2026-27 offers air-conditioned rooms with Wi-Fi in hotel-style blocks, apartments of three rooms, and larger rooms with private bathrooms at a higher price, with shared laundries, kitchens or microwaves and fridges. The campus has sports courts, fitness areas, a central library and student clubs and competitions. The Japanese link shows up in daily life too: the university is a test centre for the JLPT Japanese-language exam, and the admissions site carries messages of support from Japan's education minister and JICA's president.

Location
New Borg El Arab is a planned industrial city in Alexandria Governorate, about 55 km from Alexandria and 8 km from the Mediterranean coast. It has five industrial zones and more than 1,300 industrial and production facilities, which gives E-JUST nearby industry partners, but the campus itself is quiet and self-contained, and Alexandria is the nearest large city.

Frequently asked questions
Does E-JUST teach in English?
Yes. All undergraduate programmes are taught in English, and applicants must pass the E-JUST English test or show TOEFL iBT 60 or IELTS 6.0.
What is the E-JUST entrance exam?
Each faculty sets its own multiple-choice exam. For engineering it covers Math I and II, logical thinking, chemistry, physics and English, one hour each; passing leads to a personal interview on campus.
Can international students apply to E-JUST?
Yes, with a secondary certificate accepted by Egypt's Supreme Council of Universities and at least 12 years of schooling. The entrance exam fee is US$50, and foreign-certificate holders must also pass the Thanaweya Amma Arabic and religion exams.
