Student Life & Environment

Student experience differs across EIT’s campuses and learning modes. At Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti, students have access to libraries with quiet individual areas, group and social spaces, print and electronic resources, and off-campus access through the student portal. Academic learning advisers provide help with study skills and assignment development. The 2026 prospectus also identifies wellbeing services, disability support, Māori and Pasifika support, and assistance connecting students with appropriate on-campus or community services. YOUnited, the students’ association, represents student interests and organises social activities, discounts, and student deals. Wellbeing provision includes drop-ins and workshops, while the Hawke’s Bay campus has a Rainbow Diversity peer-support group and a disability peer-support group. Available activities and services are campus-specific, so online learners and students at regional centres should verify local access before enrolling. For students moving to Hawke’s Bay, EIT manages a Student Village directly opposite the Taradale campus. It contains 12 six-bedroom villas with furnished private bedrooms and shared living facilities. Domestic and international students live there, and an on-site accommodation team provides regular office hours and round-the-clock resident support. EIT also manages shared flats and provides information about homestays and private accommodation. Location & Surroundings

EIT’s principal Hawke’s Bay Campus is at 501 Gloucester Street in Taradale, within Napier. This is the institution’s administrative base and the location most directly associated with the database record. The campus is served by bus links toward Napier and Hastings, while Taradale shops are about a ten-minute walk from the Student Village opposite campus. Some parts of the campus were damaged by Cyclone Gabrielle, and EIT’s current campus information still notes construction and temporary or relocated teaching areas. A refurbished student hub opened in 2025, consolidating reception, information, library, IT, registry, and enrolment services. The Tairāwhiti Campus is at 290 Palmerston Road in central Gisborne, near the Taruheru River and the area’s beaches. Applicants should choose by programme location rather than institution name alone. A course advertised by EIT may be available in Hawke’s Bay, Tairāwhiti, Auckland, a regional centre, online, or only through a subset of those options. Costs & Career Outcomes

EIT does not publish one institution-wide tuition figure applicable to every student. Tuition varies by qualification, course load, residency status, and intake, and international students receive the amount payable with their Offer of Place. The 2026 prospectus states that full payment arrangements must be made before a programme starts. It also identifies a compulsory, non-tuition Student Services Levy. Students should obtain a current programme-level quote and distinguish tuition from levies, materials, fieldwork, professional checks, accommodation, and personal expenses. For eligible domestic learners, StudyLink administers student loans and allowances. EIT also lists scholarships for school leavers, Māori and Pasifika students, postgraduate students, and selected subject areas. Eligibility for the New Zealand government’s final-year Fees Free policy must be checked with Inland Revenue; EIT states that it cannot determine a student’s entitlement.
